  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

By stunts I mean doing something stupid, outlandish, potentially dangerous, or completely un-necessary for the entertainment of others.

A couple of friends and I try to pull off atleast one good stunt a month, partly because it's fun and because it entertains others. This month, Darien put on a full out Superman costume (tights and all) with rollerblades on his feet and grabbed the back of a truck as it was driving.

Now some people think doing this is stupid. I will agree that what we did probably wasnt too smart and that A LOT in the movie Jackass was incredibly stupid and didnt even begin to approach funny.

What are your views on doing this kind of thing?

I personally think its a positive thing in many cases (Not all) Its tons of fun to plan and set up and its great to see people's reaction. Something like this also gives people a greaty story to tell later that day. I mean how often do you see a guy in a Superman costume (complete with tights) on rollerblades holding onto the back of a truck thats going 50 miles an hour?

As a Christian, I believe it is wrong to purposefully do something which will harm my body. If the propper precautions are made (and there have to be some), I suppose it's up to the individual. If someone wants to display their lack of wisdom, who am I to stop them?

Well, as long as everyone is agreeing to be involved, your not forcing someone into it, no one will get hurt thats not involved, then do what you want.

If I am driving around and you try to grab my car, I will stop and we will have a onesided discussion. You wont like it, I might tho. That the reaction you were looking for?

I suppose it depends on how you define "positive". It really sounds to me like everything you describe as "being positive" is merely some really adolescent attempt at being the centre of attention. Perhaps your friend should become a politician... or join a band. That's constructive AND not life threatenning.

As for my opinion on stunts, I think stupid people do stunts. Period. The people in Jackass didn't give that movie the name because they were trying to appear like anything else. If you wanna be a jackass, weed yourself out of the gene pool already.

3 basic questions...
Are you harming or putting anyone other then yourself in danger?
Are you harming or putting the environment (animals included in danger?
Are you unwilling to face the repercussions of your actions and will others be effected by them in a negative manner?

If you answer "no" to these three questions then I see no reason to why you can not put yourself in as much foolish danger as you want.

i've done stuff like that when i was younger, and they have made for some good stories. it all depends on the situation. i've taken a piece of hard foam to a friends face when he was sleeping. he woke up mad, but the next day was laughing at it and honestly liked the fact that it happened. there are also a large number of my friends who i would not do that to. it all depends on you're relationship with the effected, and is it seriously gonna effect someone in a negative way. would you laugh if it happened to you, if not, then that is no good either.
My friends and I personally, we like everything that bam and knoxville have done, and we get a good laugh. we also know what is and isn't too far.
