  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A collection of bible studies to further learning.
We want to hear God speak in the scriptures not reverbs of old dogma (tradition), thru looking at the presented text in the light of what God is saying. This thread is for discovering God's Word thru the Scriptures by ingesting and digesting the Word of God and hopefully to eliminate false teachings.
God bless you richly in your studies.

The Book of Luke

Study 1 Luke 1:1-25

1) What was the mission assigned to John the Baptist? What was to be the nature of his greatness? (verse 15) Cf. verses 76,77.

2) What was the cause of Zachariah's punishment (verse 20)? What made him hesitate to believe the angel's message? What similar temptations to unbelief do you face? Why ought Zacheriah to have believed and why ought we to believe?

3)Verses 1-4 What do these verses tell us of (a) the sourses of Luke's information, (b) the importance he attatched to giving a truthful record, (c) his purpose in writing the gospel?

Note. Verse 3 The title "most excellent" suggests that Theophilus was a high official, probably not a Christian, but with some knowledge of and interest in Christianity.

From these verses I might have doubted as much as Zacharia. I'd be asking whether he was really an angel of God because it says that satan can come as an angel of light. We're supposed to believe with faith so I guess probably I'd just know he was from God.

I.m so glad to see that such a lot of people are stopping by for the study. Your forcing me to do the study as well and that's wonderful.
I was thinking of posting the whole verses with each lesson to make it simple to find but that would take up so much space.
So the thing that I've been doing is copy/paste the lesson onto a windows-notepad, add the verses http://www.biblegateway.com/ then it's easy to see the questions and find the answers.
Anyway, God bless everyone and have a great day!!

Study 4 Luke 1:57-80
The Birth of John the Baptist
Zechariah's Song

The song of Zechariah may be divided (verses 68-70, thanks to God for the coming of the Messiah) (71-75, the purpose of the Messiah's coming),( 76-77, the Mission of John), (78-79,further picture of Messiah's coming)

1) Trace in the song of Zechariah the successive stages in the unfolding of God's plan of salvation through the old testement and up to the coming of the messiah. How does it reveal the unity of the old and new testement?

2)What, according to this song is the purpose of salvation? Is this your experience?

It's interesting that these verses contain both
Jesus' humanity in verse 69, He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David
as well as His divinity in verse 78, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven

Hi JPPT, thanks for that. As long as I know even one person wants it there...ok, well I guess I should get the next one posted. I've slacked off already. God bless, Sis!

I always find intros on the books slow but it should pick up. It can get really deep and I've yet to make it thru so thanks for the vote of confidence.

.Study 8 Luke 3:1-22
John the Baptist Prepares the Way

1) What according to the preaching of John, are the cause, (verses 7-9, 16-17), nature (verses 8, 10-14), and the outcome (verses 3, 15-17) of repentance?

2) What did Jesus' baptism, and the voice from heaven, mean, (a) to Jesus Himself, and (b) to the others present? Cf. John 1:32-34

3) Consider the fearless honesty of John. Note also it's result (verses 19-20)

Notes
Verse 1. The date is probably set as AD 28-29
Verse 22. The Voice combines references to the OT Messianic figures of the Son of God (Ps 2:7) and the suffering Servant of the Lord (Is 42:1) thus setting the tone for Jesus' ministry.

Luke 3:1-2

My first thought was...after naming all these secular, political leaders of the time...God goes right by them and gives His word to John: "in the wilderness". Remarkable things can happen to us in the wilderness...God knows right where we are...wait for Him to speak.

John begins preaching a baptism, why? For the remission of sins. Lk 3:3

Joh tells the multitudes "the wrath of God exists and it is coming: Lk 3:7 Then He warned the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath of God?

Repentance, baptism for remission of sins is God's provision to escape His wrath to come.
John is preparing the way of the Lord, makeing His paths straight.. Lk 3:4b

I have yet to hear a preacher call any of us a brood of vipers...my o my.
