My friend at work has recommended this series to me. He tried to explain the basic plot of the story to me, but I still have no idea what it's gonna be about. No matter, Stephen King always intrigues me. I've heard that The Dark Tower series ties in with a lot of Stephen King's other books, such as characters from his books make appearances in The Dark Tower.

Has anyone else read this series? Is it worth picking up and reading? And if I do want to read it, which of Stephen King's books tie in with it?

I would recommend it. It is very entertaining and written with much more economy of words that most of King's work. It also has that special Stephen King twisted wierdness about it.

Wizard and Glass is the last one I read. I need to catch up on the series.

The Dark Tower is excellent. I just finnished Song of Susanah, the sixth of seven, last night. This is a good time to start reading it as the seventh will be out fairly soon - some poor mugs have been waiting since the late 70's when the first book was released!

As to which books tie in... lots! You could still get a great deal of enjoyment by just reading DT, but it is cool to see how all the threds come together. Personally, I think Steven King is one of the best 'low brow' fiction authors out there, and would recomend you just read all his books - in chronological order of publishing. This is over 40 books, but it will keep you in good reading for a year or several!

I am a big King fan and this is his masterpiece. I took my username from his title character Roland of Gilead.

I have been one of the poor people who have had to wait sometimes years between installments. I mean he ended one book with all the main characters riding a mono-rail seemingly to their deaths and then took a 2+ year period to give us the next book.

I don't think you can go wrong with this series -- It will also make you want to read all the other books that relate to the DT story (Insomnia - Everything's Eventual - It - The Stand - Black House - and many more...)

You have the benefit of being able to pick them all up now with no gaps with the last one coming our in September.

Aye, they speak true! Hear them very well I beg! This is a great series, I love it! Roland of Gilead has to be one of my favorite characters ever written in a book! True, there were some big gaps in between the books but finally the last one is coming soon! I believe the latest books have a list of all of Stephen Kings novels listed, the ones that relate to the Dark Tower are highlighted in bold.

In Short: Read the books:-D
