I had a Jewish friend share that with me several years ago. Unfortunately, it seems that many people would rather believe it's an evil symbol instead of something in honor of the Jewish people.
It is more likely that the Star of David found its way on the dollar bill for Freemasonry reasons. The whole District of Colombia is laid out like a Masonic symbolic territory:

And the Star of David (Seal of Solomon) is believed to have its (unofficial) introduction into Judaism during the building of the first Temple when Solomon conscripted several pagan workers from surrounding nations. It is doubtful King David ever used the symbol.
It is biblical that he was obsessed with building a stone temple to YHVH like the pagan temples in the world in place of the well worn tabernacle. It never occurred to anyone that YHVH did not want a stone temple built to him like the many pagan temples in the world were built to the various gods man worshiped. Nor did he apparently want the tabernacle replaced. For he gave no one else the command nor the architectural plans that he gave to Moses.
Hebrews 8:5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as
Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
When David presumed to build the temple, and Nathan the prophet presumed David had the Midas touch, YHVH put the brakes on both and had Nathan withdraw his blessing on the project telling David that God was honored by the thought but the application would step on Messianic toes.
2 Samuel 7:12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
Just to clarify who that heir is:
Zechariah 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold
the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and
he shall build the temple of the LORD:
13 Even
he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory,
and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Solomon, with the aged David's backing, pressed on to build the first Temple... and God conceded to deal with Israel (religiously) through the Temple in the same way he conceded to deal with Israel (judiciously) through the monarchy (1 Samuel 8).
You will note several things about the building of the first Temple...
- Pagans were conscripted for part of its construction and craft
- Various unlawful sacrifices were performed ostensibly to honor / dedicate the Temple
- Solomon's dedication / prayer reads more like a "Solomon says..." than any decree of acceptance of the Lord
- Rarely did Israel from that point on remain in God's graces for any length of time and now they had a vessel (Temple) in which to further avoid opportunity for error (shall we say)
- Yeshua / Jesus referred to the Temple as that of YHVH (in name only)
The temple YHVH had in mind in 2 Samuel 7 was:
1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
The actual religious symbol for Israel is the tabernacle menorah.
The Seal of Solomon (Star of David) entered into Jewish occupation about the time several mistakes were made... and as you recall, Solomon himself could not recover (with all his wisdom) from the paganism he indulged (married and practiced) and led Israel into in the latter part of his life. It was only for David's sake that the Kingdom was not split in two during Solomon's lifetime but was split in the very next generation.
I say this not as one who likes to harp on what Israel gets wrong... but when these matters need clarification, I must speak. There is no doubt and no question that the six point star with six triangles and a six sided center is pagan in origin... and that its entrance into Jewish practices was in error.
In the early 1900's it was used by Nazi Germany to brand the Jews and their establishments. My guess is that the modern State of Israel adopted the symbol out of spite towards that awful, Haman-esque regime. In much the same way America adopted Yankee Doodle as a symbol of pride which the British intended to mean buffoon, hick, hillbilly, colonial bumpkin... America took the term in spite of its intent. And as I said, I am guessing the modern State of Israel did adopted the Star of David for the same reasons. America also adopted many Freemason symbols (imho as just some of many benchmark symbols from history Egyptian, Roman, Greek) but that does not change the pagan origin of them nor the fact that they remain pagan symbols. And both Israel and America have adopted pagan symbols in ignorance or apathy.
