And here are all these people telling me that it is my choice whether to believe or not...

If it's a supernatural act, then I guess its all up to God as whether I will believe or not.

And that is fine by me. If he decides to accept me, that will be great.

And if he decides not to, as there is nothing I can do about it I won't worry about it.

A supernatural act of God does not negate the factor of decision.

No, you can't invoke anything. You can ask Jesus Christ, to come into your life as Lord and Savior. God is sovereign.

Yes, God is mysterious to the finite human mind.

Or is it purely up to God?

If the former, I can invoke the power of God (sounds a bit like a spell, to me)

If the latter, my choice to ask does nto matter. There is not 'right way'; it is simply up to God as to whether he comes into my life or not.

See, either God is sovereign or God is subject to choices we make. You can't have it both ways.

David, I believe the Gospel of John does a much better job than I in telling of the nature of God(Father, Son[Jesus Christ] and the Holy Spirit). It is not my aim to convince any man of that which he rejects.

Hmmm. Fair enough - that is your choice.

However, such a choice seems a strange one to me.

Presumably you believe that in my current state of spirituality I will not enter Heaven if I died. You may even believe that I will burn for eternity in Hell.

If something you say has the smallest chance of pushing me towards salvation, I wonder why you feel no obligation to say it?

After all, my fate after death is so important that anyone who had the chance to say something to me that might put me on the right path should do so, shouldn't they?

Or are you truly leaving it in God's hands, thus demonstrating that you believe in His sovereingnty and not human choice when it comes to salvation?

The concept of eternal separation from God should to a Christian be the worst thing imaginable. As such, every attempt should be made to prevent it - if human choice plays a part in salvation. If not, then I guess it does not matter...

Haven't time to read the whole thread, please forgive me if I repeat....

Has anyone ever heard of "irradiated food"? Of course, technically, if you have a MICROWAVE OVEN, you must definately HAVE. How about "cross-linking of polymers under radiative flux" (not nearly as complicated as it sounds...)

You see, high energy photons, and protons (alpha) and electrons (beta) and even micro-meteorites, wreak havoc with chemical processes.

In short, radiation breaks chemical bonds. (I have never gotten sick from "iffy" food that's been through the microwave!)

Now, on Earth, we have this wonderful thick atmosphere, thick enough to support birds (although Kiwi and Ostriches don't do well), DC-10s and even fully-laden military transports. (I am still in awe when I see that much METAL hanging in the sky....) And, we have this terrific SHIELD, we call it the "Van Allen Radiation Belt". So precious little flux gets through to Earth. Some does, notalot...

What does Mars have? Nuttin'. Very thin atmosphere, no "deflector-shields, captain", there is no way there will be surface life. No complicated biological chemistry is possible under radiation. That's why irradiated food is so TASTY, even after a couple of YEARS on your pantry SHELF...

(And no, irradiated food does NOT glow in the dark. Neither will you. Unless you are the EMBARASSABLE kind, then that's a whole different mechanism, when the blood vessels under the skin react in psychosomatic emotional responses, which is less with certain ethnicities, but there is the genetic influence, which, by recessive and dominant, oh nevermind...)

Given the fact that Mars did have running water on it at one time (and lots of it too) the atmosphere must have been much thicker to support that water. Thus sheilding the planet, nat as good as Earth but some shielding.

Now bacteria on earth can live wellbelow the surface, it is not a large leap to think that if Mars was hospitable for long enough that we might still find the deep bacteria under the soil. And I do believe I once read that there are some bacteria native to earth that would be able to survive on the surface of mars... But it's been a long time so I'm not sure of that one.

There MAY have been life, PREVIOUSLY. But the main thing that runs our radiation belts, as I understand it, is our magnetosphere. Which, being solid (and not-too-ferrous), Mars don't-got. Doesn't have...

Bacteria may survive on Mars, subterranian, but would it flourish? It always amazes me to hear evolutionists speak of "parallel evolution on other worlds". Statistical probability of it occurring HERE is literally one chance in infinity. Raised to the power of infinity several billion times. And in all the Universe, it can happen TWICE??? Amazing...

  The probability of life existing elsewhere is currently unknown, and any attempts to calculate it are utter hogwash, as anyone who has played with the Drake equation can tell you. Too many complete unknowns.

Life is, by definition, complex organic chemical processes. Be it carbon-based, silicon based, familiar or not. Living beings must still form complex molecules and achieve sophisticated chemistry. The odds of life existing in the presence of sterilizing radiation, IS zero. In "Out of the Silent Planet" by C. S. Lewis the hnau existed in deep ravines and clefts, protected by walls of rock. If life COULD presently exist on Mars, it could ONLY be in shielded areas---not open, exposed surface.

I read with interest the front page headlines a year or so back, "SCIENTIEST FIND LIFE ON MARS!", referring to the seeming bacterial residue on a Martian meteorite. Days later, hidden inside a "back-section", was a retraction: "Scientists admit the evidence is consistent with hydraulic inclusion from impact and from cross-contamination from Earthly sources.

  Nice post, but it has nothing to do with what I said. I didn't say "The probabilty of life on Mars is unknown". I said the probablity of life, elsewhere, is unknown.

   And, at this point, not capable of being assesed.
