Where is it written in the scriptures that the signs and wonders were only for the 1st century? Why wouldn't we need them today when the world needs the Church so much. I can't even turn on a TV program without there being a gay couple portrayed.

So are you a believer, or a mocker? The choice is yours.
I'm not sure how my quoting of Holy Scriptures and concluding that the "works of God" relate to the Gospel immediately mentioned after by Peter, somehow is mocking?

If you could explain this please do. I say such and approach you as such because we are told:

Galatians 5: NKJV

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

OK, start picking up snakes and drink a glass of poison.
The Lord didn't command us to pick up snakes and drink glasses of poison.

Do you have scripture which says otherwise or are you just setting up straw men to bash?

If you are - the Lord will likely judge you for your misrepresentations of the beliefs and teachings of your brothers and sisters.

Be very careful when you post your opinions online. You will likely incur a much more strict judgement then you would have if you had just listened in and learned.

He referenced the chapter 3 works and events as being pointed to in the chapter 2 discourse - not any other works and events.

Of course everything that the Lord does is wonderful. But that's not the point I was referring to.
No I was clearly pointing out that Peter preached the Gospel in both chapter 2 and chapter 3.

The wonderful works of God is the Gospel. The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus Christ.

John 15: NKJV

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

"Forbid not the speaking of tongues" seems to be an appropriate admonition for some here.

God will correct in time if it is appropriate .

In the mean time - you may be causing others to stumble by undermining their faith in such matters.
Marvin perhaps some have been harsh here but want to make sure you are not referring to me. 1 Corinthians makes it clear tongues is a gift. I'm not a cessationist. My line of questioning and exegesis is to point out Acts 2 is being stretched and wrested to shoehorn a theology that is not apparent in the text.

Every sign and wonder in Acts points to the spreading of the Gospel. We see this clearly in Acts 2-4.

not 1 Corinthians 12:14 but 1 Corinthians 12-14 (as the overall context). A specific verse is 1 Corinthians 12:4 that mentions charisma. "Now there are varieties of [charisma], but the same Spirit;"

As for dorea Acts 2:38 does exist and it says "And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the [dorea] of the Holy Spirit." I'm not sure why it doesn't trigger an auto verse link but it still is a verse.

Will not be picking up snakes OR drinking poison.
Speaking in tongues is a wonderful blessed gift of speaking directly to the Father, and when I don't have the words, the Spirit speaks for me. Yes, it is essential TO ME.

"Forbid not the speaking of tongues" seems to be an appropriate admonition for some here.

I'm not a cessationist, but I also don't believe that what is called tongues as practiced in the modern Pentecostal and Charismatic movements has any resemblance to what is discussed in Scripture.

If someone has the authentic gift of tongues, then fantastic. But ecstatic gibberish is not the gift of tongues. In the New Testament tongues is not gibberish, it consists of speaking actual languages. These are not heavenly languages, angelic languages, or private/personal prayer languages--they are actual languages.

I have no problem with speaking in tongues as Scripture addresses it. I do have a problem with bad biblical interpretation and eisgesis in order to defend unbiblical practices and ideas; I have an even bigger problem when such things are placed as an obstacle and used to hide, obfuscate, or distort the Gospel.

And what did Peter and John end up doing that day? They preached the Gospel after healing a man:
And yes they confirmed Mark 16:15-18 and especially
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:20

Signs , wonders and miracles along with praying in tongues are the hallmarks of true Pentecostal
worship and obedience to the original apostolic gospel written of in all the epistles.
Not only can I experience what the lame man experienced, a miraculous healing and rising up to praise God, but I can pray for others; both for my brethren in the flock, and even for unbelievers.
Boldness before the throne of grace in faith praying in tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Wonderful miracles. Marvellous testimonies to divine protection, divine providence, healings, miracles,
even unbelievers being blessed through fervent prayer for their needs.

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law,
or by the hearing of faith?
Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Galatians 3:2-3
