  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sound Doctrine... What does that mean?

Yeah, I agree that is a bit of a stretch. But it is an attempt (awkward as it is) to understand how the one Greek word might have a similar basic meaning when used in different contexts.
I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying. At one point in time I set out to write a computer program that translated every Greek word in the NT using only one English word for each instance of the same Greek word. But I gave up on that project at some point. Are you suggesting that something like that is appropriate?
I did thoroughly enjoy reading your entire response. Your research is well done, and formatted intelligently.

I was just saying that the word 'sound' is vague, and can be used to mean something completely different than its original Greek meaning.

I do think consistency in translation is a good idea, but it wouldn't be popular because most people choose versions that have words they're used to hearing or reading.
