Sororities and Fraternities

I am a member of one of the world's most famous fraternities, it's not famous for a good reason! Some of the members were in a porno about 8 years ago. I joined to have fun in college and meet some friends. Well, what I got was alot of both!

There are things that people do that are absolutely terrible, in any situation in life. I think stereotypes are awful. Yes, I am in a crazy fraternity, with alot of temptation. I think it is important that you yourself try to live my God's word and resist the temptation that is thrust in front on you in such situations. It does make it harder, but that's when you need to rely on God for strength!

Being Greek at school has been great for me. And as previously said not all sororities and frats r the same. I am in ZTA and we have a great sisterhood and we raise lots of money for breast cancer education, research, etc.. We do lots of service projects and I have made lots of good friends but I didn't join because I didn't have friends and wanted to buy them. We're friends because we are not just because of zeta. I think that you can choose to be in the "bad" parts of greek life if you choose. But if you don't want to then you don't have to you can surely be a good christian influence in a greek organization and you won't be alone. I hope that those of you who do not agree are not to quick to judge and can see the good in greek organizations because they do help the communites etc.. with their service projects.

Well I myself have never thought about it. To be perfectly honest, the idea of Fraternities and Saroraties can be both supported and challenged by many Bible scholars. I went to a Community College and I am going to a Christian College so I have never encountered their behaviour. On a personal note, I have always laughed at the idea of being in one. I hate to sound mean, but really... what you are to scared to go make some real friends that you went out and joined a group of loosers to make up for it... lol. I am just kidding, but still. Usually the stories I have heard are just nerdy.

the ideals many soroities and fraternities hold are similar to many found in the bible itself but to know that you would have to be greek. We have standards to uphold also the greek system can be a good thing for many people. p.s many people in the greek system are very social people and love making new friends and for me hopefully sisters =) You don't have to like the greek system but please don't think worse of those who do.

frats and sories our most def not against our christian faith.. most promote a lifestlye that noone who knows what Jesus has to offer should even ever be interested in. but anyway in my personal humble opinion.. its stupid to pay for friends.. but i have seen God do amazing thing in greek organizations before too so yeah...

I am a member of a sorority and have been for almost 2 years now. The particular sorority I am in is not like most. The reason I joined a sorority in the first place is because it was my first semester at college and I wanted to meet new people. I have a met a bunch of wonderful ladies and have also learned a lot of leadership skills from being in a sorority. My college and sorority both strictly prohibit hazing, so it is not something we have to deal with, nor do we even agree with it.

I will admit that while a lot of the girls in my sorority are Christian's, not all live in Christ as they should. I choose to remove myself from any situations that would make me go against Him and His word.

In response to the quoted Facebook group a page or so back, I would like to point out that a handful (maybe half a dozen) of the famous people listed went on to do great things...the rest are actors, quite a few of which are crude comedians.

Hollywood isn't exactly the most Christian thing. While the rest of the stats provided may be true, the list of people does not help the cause very much.

I'm in a sorority, and it's not your typical sorority, either. I'm in Gamma Sigma Sigma, the service sorority. We have dry rush, and encourage dry membership, and our sorority's purpose is to do community service. We come up with a whole bunch of service projects during the semester, and we work to help the community. We've participated in Relay for Life, we've raised money for domestic violence awareness, we've assisted at the animal shelter my sister works at, we've made blankets for sick children, done food drives, and collected toys for Toys for Tots, all in this semester alone. Most of the organizations on our campus make fun of us or pick on us because we're not a social sorority (in the national bylaws, if we our chapter has an official "house" the chapter is disbanded!). I don't care, though- I know I'm making a difference in the community.

I am a member of Alpha Theta Omega Christian Sorority Inc. and I love it. Our brothers are Alpha Omega Theta Christian Fraternity Inc. Our main purpose is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout college campuses and in our communities. We also do normal greek stuff like stepping and strolling and community service.

i think the whole stereotype of joining a Sorority or Fraternity just as an excuse to party is half true and half false. our society stereotypes it as an excuse to "buy friends" and to get drunk, thus earning the reputation as it being a Frat. there are some good Sororities and Fraternities that dont do things like that, but the bad ones overshadow the good ones.

I've also noticed that the bad ones end up giving the good ones a bad reputation. For example, none of the other greek organizations on my campus are terribly fond of Gamma Sigma Sigma, because we don't party like they do, and all we do are service projects. We get dirty looks from other girls in other sororities whenever they see us wearing our letters.
