  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kay, well I know that for me, I have to have music playing to go to sleep. And if the radio's not playing anything good, I'll pop in a CD of music I burned myself so that I get the right kind of mix to calm me down and help me fall asleep.

So I was wondering, how many other people here do this same sort of thing? And I guess it might be a good idea to post track listings for those CDs also. I'll start; a few of these are hard rock songs, but when you turn the volume down to a whisper-like level they take on a whole new feeling, and the ones that are on here aren't so chaotic that they would keep me up, but anyway, this is a CD I have that I call Mood Mix 4, since there were three that came before it

1. Bruce Springsteen-Secret Garden
2. U2-With Or Without You
3. Nickelback-Breathe
4. Utada Hikaru-Colors
5. Stabbing Westward-What Do I Have To Do?
6. Savage Garden-Gunning Down Romance
7. Color Theory-I Felt The Pain
8. Roxette-It Must Have Been Love
9. Richard Marx-Should've Known Better
10. Switchblade Symphony-Fear
11. Patty Smyth and Don Henley-Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough
12. Gackt-Cube
13. East West-She Cries
14. Linkin Park-My December
15. Staind-It's Been Awhile
16. Vast-Touched
17. Concrete Blonde-Caroline

After having used this CD to fall asleep quite often, I can say without a doubt that I would probably willingly replace tracks 8 and 11 with other songs, probably 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls, 'Wonderwall' by Oasis, 'All Night Long' by Peter Murphy, or 'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinead O'Connor.

P.S. You don't have to list tracks on a CD, but you can if you want. I don't want anyone to feel left out because they don't listen to a specific CD to go to sleep, I just want to know what some songs that you find relaxing enough to nod off to are.

I rarely need music on to fall asleep, but if I do, I'd use U2's The Unforgettable Fire. MLK is the perfect song to slip off to sleep during. I would perhaps use a modifed UF ...

1. The Three Sunrises
2. Love Comes Tumbling
3. A Sort Of Homecoming
4. The Unforgettable Fire
5. Promenade
6. 4th Of July (extended version)
7. Bad
8. Indian Summer Sky
9. Elvis Presley And America
10. Sixty Seconds In Kingdom Come
11. Boomerang I
12. Boomerang II
13. Bass Trap (5:13 version)
14. MLK

That's some of the UF CD, plus b-sides from that era. I really should make that CD and try it some night ...

I usually pop in one of these...

Chris Thile (not all who wonder are lost)
Bela Fleck (Natural Bridge)
Brave Heart soundtrack

Chirs Thile's and Bela Fleck's cds are bluegrass style and really beautiful, nice to relax to. The braveheart soundtrack is nice, especially the first few tracks.

I know youll all laugh at me for this one:
When I was 11 I used to listen to the Pocahontas soundtrack every night while going to sleep

Now I cannot listen to music while going to sleep, it keeps me up. I listen to the crickets instead, or the air conditioner, or heater.

Haha, no shame ps (I have a few Pocahontas songs on my computer). But hey, good music is good music. I think I'll put on "Colors of the Wind" (although I prefer the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack.)

I have two words...Pure Moods. When I have trouble getting to sleep, this is the CD I usually put on. And just the original...Pure Moods 2 & 3 aren't as soothing in my opinion.

Another good album is Laid by James. There's are a few up-tempo songs on it...but most of the music is very mellow and quiet. Most notably:
Out to Get You
Dream Thrum
One of the Three
Say Something
Five-O

Toad the Wet Sprocket has some good ones too. Two good ones are:
Windmills
All in All

LOL!!

Well you knew we were going to laugh at you!

I hardly ever fall asleep to music these days. I find I don't need anything to send me off to sleep, I tired enough! Although I used to listen to The Bends (Radiohead) and Stanley Road (Paul Weller) a few years ago to send me off....zzz..z...z....zzz....

My German teacher has driven most of us in the class utterly crazy with Pure Moods. Too much 'Orinioco Flow' will make you want to shoot yourself, lol.

Another good album is Laid by James. There's are a few up-tempo songs on it...

I'm familiar with James, but pretty much for the title track to that album and 'Sit Down'. Would those be a couple of the upbeat ones you were talking about?

Toad the Wet Sprocket has some good ones too. Two good ones are:
Windmills
All in All

I forgot about Toad the Wet Sprocket. Personally, the only two songs of their's I've really listened to were 'Walk On The Ocean' and 'All I Want', but the ones you mentioned sound good too.

I'm sorry your German teacher ruined Pure Moods for you....I only listen to it these days to relax...anything else is overkill.

With James, on the Laid album...there are 3 songs that I'd considered more upbeat...
Sometimes (Lester Piggot)
Laid
Low Low Low
Sit Down must be on another album...I haven't really listened to much of their other stuff.

I should also add there's a lot of relaxing New Age stuff...but if you are sick of Pure Moods...that may not work for you.

If you're looking for something more of a Christian Nature...I've been meaning to order this CD for awhile:

I have Refiners Fire on MP3 and it's beautiful.

*points and laughs *

I agree with Sign here; Norah Jones is great sleeping music. Cool jazz is also a great choice, like Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. I also like to fall asleep to Coldplay and Sigur Ros.

Axver, its no surprise that 2 U2 fans agree, but before I even saw your post, I immediately thought of most of the songs on U2's Unforgettable Fire. Even the same songs (Wire and Pride) are more like pump up songs. Coldplay's Parachutes album would be good too.
