  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sometimes it the little things that keep us encouraged

I have been helping a homeless friend who is not making the best choices and is in a very sticky situation. I didn't really have the money to spend taking her in because I'm currently not working and looking for a job. I did it anyway. Last night I had to make her leave my home. When I did I gave her a little bit of food. I gave her a new unopened jar of peanut butter and few other things.

This left me without any peanut butter because she had eaten a lot of the peanut butter jar that was already opened at my home. I LOVE peanut butter.

So anyway, I have been anxious about not having work and felt guilt for using some of my resources to help her when I have my own obligations that I can't meet. I'm supposed to drive out of state to pick up my son in a couple of weeks. At this point I don't have the gas money to get there. I won't have money to buy food on the road either, and thought that I need to carry food to make sandwiches (likely peanut butter) with me instead of spending on the road.

I'm almost at the last of my money. I needed laundry detergent and gas in my van so I went to the store. I decided to look at the peanut butter and get the cheapest they had. It turns out that the brand I gave to my friend is on clearance for 1.50. I thought the date might be expired but it is still good for almost another year. I got two jars of peanut butter for 3.00.

The joy and delight I felt was unexpected and huge.

Thank God for peanut butter!!

Absolutely! God WILL provide... live with that expectation.
For me? I cannot do anything (not well anyway) without Him. But it's usually not til I remind myself (and Him that I remember) of the fact until God steps in.

May He provide for your trip.

I was laid off from my job. I am applying for all kinds of employment, but I am limited in my physical abilities due to chronic health problems including joint problems. I have been trying to drive for Uber. The Uber thing has not been productive. I do have an interview with a staffing agency next week.

I've made an insurance claim which would give me some money but it was denied due to some problem with documentation. I have appealed. They could still say no, but I'm trying. It won't be a ton of money, but it will help while I'm still looking for work.

Thanks. Things have worked out but it was very tight for a long time.

I was called to come back to my job back in July because the work load picked up sooner than they expect and it continued. Since then I've been offered a core position with more training, and when work loads slow down again next spring my hours might be reduced but it isn't likely that I will be laid off.
