• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Im thinking about setting an appointment to see that doctor about getting me on Strattera. I've struggled with ADD-ADHD for as long as I can remember. I took Ritalin for a long time during grade school and middle school and some of high school. I've noticed how much of an impact it makes at work, since most of the time I am busy multi-tasking and trying to meet deadlines. Its such a struggle to try to keep focused on one task at a time. I noticed that I can mulit-task easier than try to keep focused on a certain project. well anyways before I forget why I was writing this, I was curious if there was anything out there that was effective on adult adhd. This is a problem that I would like to get a handle on soon!

See my other post about straterra, but it is not any better suited for adult adhd, then any of the other meds out there. The fact that it is being targeted for adult ADHD is the result of marketing and not science. Ritalin and Adderal et all are just as effective in adults as they are in children. The concept of adult adhd is relatively new, and older meds were not submited for fda aproval in the treatment of adult adhd, they work just at the time Adult ADHD was not known or widely accepted so they were not submitted for approval.

I reccomend strattera only if you havn't responded well to stimulants, or are uncomfortbale with the idea or hassle of getting stimulant medications (Prescription in triplicate).

I wouldn't talk to a doctor with much of a preconceived idea about what you should be on rather just discuss what you are comfortable and not comfortable with, and then working together to find meds that work.

Straterra didn't really work for me, but neither did ritalin, medidate cd or any countless other, but i have responded well to adderal. The medication game is one that takes patience to play.
