Smoking and the temple of God
1Co 6:
You have been born of the Spirit. The Paraclete dwells in you. This is not a metaphor but a spiritual reality. It is not good to share your Paraclete so closely by an act of sexual intercourse with someone who is not your wife.
You don't need v 19 to stop smoking. See this.
Do you think in order to become a temple or a church for God's spirit to dwell within us, we need to stay away from things that harms our body?
No, God's Spirit dwells with you when you are born again, whether you smoke or not.
1Co 6:
Some Christians use v 19 against smoking. That wasn't Paul's logic. The context was sexual immorality.17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sine a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
