Sinful Nature

I have been reading a series of three books on Christian sanctification. I'm not there yet but I have been reading the books. One thing brought out in the book was we don't have a sin nature so to speak I'll explain that another time. but what we have is an infestation so to speak a disease that has spread throut our entire being sin is a desease that when given so to speak the right medication ( by the way I am using fiures of speec I'm not a heretic) can be healed. again I'll go into more detail another time. But it is a desease sin is not another nature it is something rampant within us

This might not have the punch on which i think it might, but if we somehow don't have a natrual tendience to sin, trying to use diffrent words here , then show me a baby that isn't the most selfish little imp you have ever seen? i have never seen a baby or child, unless it is really really taught well, or really really handicaped, to just give another kid a toy. the more likely thing you will see of course is 'MINE'.

If someone wants to argue for the existence of a sin nature according to the Western, and especially Protestant standpoint, then one needs to accurately define what is meant by that term. Is it some nebulous black mist residing in our soul that impels us to sin? Is it a disposition of the will that results in the inordinately strong impulse to sin? I myself like the Orthodox view that our mortality is what causes us to sin. We need to come to some sort of definition before we can argue for the existence or non-exsistence of such a phenomena.

What do you think of this? THAT we sin against ourselves, others and especially God is one of the darker themes of Scriptures. Wrong behavior is usually traced back to what the Biblical writers called the "heart", roughly equivalent to our mind, the center of planning, pondering and willing. However, the Scriptures do not dig deeper than that: they do not have a fold-out chart that provides a complete psychology of the sinner. Jesus said, "For out of the heart come evil thots, murder, adultery.....these are what make a man unclean", Mtt.15:19-29. Our character has an indelible dark stain, because we have insisted on acting out what we fantasized, idolized, detested and lusted after in our hearts. Thank God for full and complete pardon! So because a baby doesn't share a toy, that is sin and sin nature? How do you come to that conclusion?

So if I come over and attempt to take your car, you will just let me take it? So if you don't let me take it, that means you have a sin nature and depraved?

your example is a lot diffrent then what the topic is, but how i come to that conclusion, is by saying that we as children are selfish...and i think we as adults are...selfish. and selfishness is a sin, you see, sin breeds more sin, because i would love to be able to say, you have no need to steal my car, because if you really need it you can take it for a bit. but, who in there right mind is that stupid right? well thats the point, because there are ppl that make a comment like that, it will never be done. picture a world (fantasy here) where everyone was filled with joy, no care, honesty, and integrity. well then, you would have no reason to take my car, because i would let you borrow it, and being the kind person you are, you would bring it back. all in the sake of loving one another.

The concept of a sin nature is not readily proven from scripture. Sure, Scripture does speak of man's evil heart and his wickedness, but it doesn't speak in such terms of a sin nature.

Sure, Solomon does speak a lot about children's behavioral problems and the need of effective discipline, but if children are plagued by a sin nature that inevitably leads them to sin, then how can discipline correct the problem?

That doesn't really answer the question. How is discipline with the rod going to drive a sinful nature from the child? Discipline may produce temperance, obedience, and self-control but it isn't going to remove the sinful nature from the person.

I believe that certain people do not have a sin nature any longer - saved people.

As a reborn, regenerated person, I do not long to do what is wrong. If this flesh of mine commits sin, it is totally against my new nature.
