THE ORIGIN OF SIN
Adam and Eve were the first people on the Earth. When God created the Earth, He placed the Tree of Knowledge in the center of the Garden of Eden. He told Adam and Eve both that they could eat from any tree, but the Tree of Knowledge. One day, when Eve was out, she was tempted by a serpent to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. She ate from it and then brought the fruit to Adam. When they did this, they could now see both good and evil. Because of them disobeying God, He told them that all their descendents would now be born into sin and all would taste death. This is how sin was brought into our world.
SALVATION
We can not be in God's precense if we have sin. We can not receive the reward of living with God in His kingdom because all men have fallen short of the glory of God. We don't deserve such a reward. But, our God is a gracious God. He loves us so much. He wants us to be with Him. So, to be free from sin, One had to come down and be sinless. There had to Someone who could make the sacrifice for our sins. This One, is the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross and suffered the worse for us. Us. Sinners. If you look back in history, you will see that the crucifixion was the worst form of punishment, so Jesus had to come then. He had to suffer the worse for us. If He came now, it wouldn't be the same to get an injection and just die. No, He hung on a wooden cross by some nails just so we could live with God just by repenting of our sins and walking the narrow path. You've probably heard of this verse:
John 3:16:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
We must believe in Jesus, and we will have everlasting life. Jesus is the only way into the kingdom of God.
TEMPTATION
Everyone will have temptation to sin. This is especially true when you go to leave that sin. Let's take for example sexual immorality. Jesus said that when you lust after someone, you've already commited adultery in your own heart. When we look at porn and gratify our flesh, we are sinning. When you don't want to leave it, you aren't tempted. You feel like you can leave it easily. But, when you go to leave that sin, temptation comes and it is actually hard to leave. Our flesh wants sex and to satisfy itself. Read what Jesus said:
Mark 14:38:
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Let's first look at the second thing Jesus said: "The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." The flesh is weak, which means that temptation is powerful and the pull is strong. The spirit is willing, which means we can leave sin, but we must do what Jesus first said: "Watch and pray." We must always be praying and watching, because temptation will take us over if we don't do these things.
Let's now talk about the origin of temptation and growth of sin.
James 1:13-15:
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
So, by reading these verses, we see that temptation does not come from God. In scripture, you will see many times that it is actually satan who tempts us and temptation takes us over when we do not have self-control. (1 Cor. 7:5) Now, when we read verse 15, it states that first, there is desire, then desire gives birth to sin, and then finally, sin leads to death when it is fully grown. When we allow sin and we allow our desires to take us over, it turns to sin and then that sin begins to grow and becomes harder to break free. This is why we must be watchful and prayerful so that temptation doesn't take us over causing us to sin.
LEAVING SIN
Leaving sin, like I said before, is hard. Temptation comes and it is hard to break free from them, especially our habitual sins or the sins which we've made part of our everyday lives. We must pray though, because like I said before, God is gracious. He sent His Son to die on the cross for us. Don't lose faith, cry out to Jesus and keep crying out. Don't give up and don't let satan condemn you. satan likes to tempt us to sin, and then once we've sinned, he condemns us and puts bad thoughts in our head that say we're bad and we can't do it. Don't allow him to do that. Rebuke him. Let me show you what the Apostle John wrote:
1 John 2:12-14:
12 I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake.
13 I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children,
Because you have known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one.
When we begin to flee from sin, we are children. Children fall all the time. But, they get back up and keep going. When we sin, it's the grace of God that lifts us back up. We must always repent our sins every time we fall. We must continue on the path of righteousness.
Now, the next group that John writes to are young men. This is the next step after being a child. This is when we begin to become victorious over sin and able to fight the evil one through the word of God. We are strong.
The next spirituality state is what we must strive for is being a father. When we are fathers, we look back on our past and we remember our struggles. We are very wise on God's word and we can fight the evil one because the Lord is with us. When we are fathers, we can teach the children and we can lead them to where we are. This is what we must strive for.
These 3 groups are spirituality states. Which means, a physical father could actually be a child and a physical child could actually be a father. (Not likely though. More like a physical young man could be a father.)
So, keep praying. Have faith. You will break free from your sins. The grace of God will save you.
I'm also going to post the music video of the song, "Cry Out to Jesus" by my favorite band, Third Day (There from Georgia too which is where I was born):
