Thank you.Personally, I just try to trust him and take him at his word given to us by Christ.
In prayer, this involves me acknowledging my wisdom,my strength,my forgiveness,my love and everything that might be considered good about me falls short of God, so I appeal to him to make me righteous by using his will and suspending my own will.
I also apologise for my debts owed to God and forgive my debtors,so to ensure I don't interfere with Gods justice system.
There's more to say but I'll keep it short.
Thank you.Feel free to ad more if you wish.
Read the Bible.Any thoughts on knowing the Lord?
Thank you. I read the NASB and NKJV mostly.Yep. If you want to know God and His will, read the Bible. If you want to do the will of God, do the Bible.
This means getting a translation of the Bible, (NIV or Jerusalem Bible), sitting down and just reading it through. That's why God inspired the Bible, so that by reading it, we get to know Him.
Jeremiah 31:33-34
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Im happy you were edified. All bible verses which you put in here are powerful, though this one I have under here; makes me think of how it will be in heaven together with God. Something which is very encouraging for me to read right now.
Any thoughts on knowing the Lord?
Thsnk you.Seek Him and then, Listen to Him!!!
The Father told us that very thing: "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"
His words are spirit, so they are not sound waves, nor are they ink on pages, but they are words that we can pickup in our spirit if we are not - dull of hearing. "the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life"
Jesus Christ said He would never leave us, so He is just standing there wanting to have conversations back and forth with us. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him and he with Me.
So getting to know the Lord is like getting to know anyone else. So spend time having conversations with them. Yet it seems like people's thinking make it so hard. So simply talk to Him in your spirit and listen to Him in your spirit. Yet, that has to be done by faith, which is the simple believe that He is there and He can talk to you.
Sadly, we are a people of little faith, or belief that He is indeed there and will talk to you. And the snake is still saying, "Did God really say", causing us to doubt that the Lord is really there and will talk to you. And if we doubt, then we don't have faith but doubt. So there goes our efforts to seek Him and what He has to say to us. That is to say; we don't listen to Him like the Father commanded if we don't think He is with us and will talk to us.
When we have that doubt with results in little faith, and we start to realize we need to hear from Him, we try to overcome that in a number of ways.:
Perhaps we quiet ourselves in a quiet place and concentrate on hearing from Him. That is a good idea, but He can be heard from in a noisy place also. Have you never gone shopping with Him at a maul. I love to do my Christmas shopping with the Christ. I got so many stories about getting the perfect gift, by doing that very thing.
Perhaps we think that He is either dead or in a far off place called heaven, so we turn the Bible as the word of god to us. It's true that Bible has words that the Lord had written to tell people about Him, but they were words spoken to others and written down by others. We need to listen to Him and hear what He has to say to us.
Perhaps we just talk to Him and treat Him like a machine that will answer all our needs if we just tell Him what we need. So we talk to Him but do not listen to Him. He loves us, so He might do what you ask, but He is wise and He knows what you 'need'! So is it better to talk to Him or listen to Him?
If you want a deeper relationship with the Lord, try listening to Him!!! It's weird and He is weird, but that is because we don't practice listening, so it seems weird listening to Him and because His thoughts are not our thoughts, so He thoughts while good are often weird to us.
Also, remember that He reproves those He loves! Yet that makes us better and because He loves you He wants you to be better.
I tend to go long, but it amazes me that "Christian" the very people called by Him, say and write things that show they are not actually practicing what they are preaching. They obviously don't realize it, but it is clear. It is clear when they say to hear from the Lord they have to open their Bible and read what others heard, or they say that if they get in a very quiet place all alone, then perhaps they can hear the voice of the Lord, or even when they ask a question about how you get to know Him better.
Of course you get to know Him better by talking to Him more and listening to what He says! Of course His words are spirit and not the ink on pages! Of course it might be easier to concentrate if you are in a quiet place but can't you hear from a friend you go shopping with no matter what the noise lever around you!
Face it: we are men of little faith. So we need to just start believing that He is with us like He said and start listening to Him!!!
