  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You just repeated that you can't show or prove the alleged curve. You can't explain how the Chicago skyline {not a mirage) can be photographed from 50 miles away.
you make a lot of impressive sounds but you don't prove anything.

Assuming one is not elevated above the surface, distant objects can sometimes be seen above the curvature of the Earth due to atmospheric refraction. At the same time, it can make otherwise visible objects disappear below the horizon. This occurs with the sun and moon appearing or setting before or after they should.

You just completely ignored my post. Who is responsible for this grand conspiracy dating back 500 years when Europeans first started circumnativigating the globe?
You gotta go back even further than that. The ancient Greeks understood the Earth was round were making pretty accurate measurements of the circumference of the Earth at least as early as 240BC.

The idea that people as late as ~600 years ago thought the world was flat is a myth. A popular misconception is that people thought the world was flat up until Columbus "proved" the world was round. Except Columbus did no such thing. The size and shape of the earth was well understood by that point. The issue with Columbus was that he thought the world was significantly smaller than the commonly accepted size, and thus thought sailing West to get to the Indies would be a good route. Everyone else realized that would be a LONG way to go and without any known land along the way, it'd be a death sentence. Columbus just got lucky in that there was a Continent that most people didn't know about.

Distance causing obscurity is not a curvature problem.
That you can see it is hearsay. I've had plenty of 30,000 ft. commercial airline flights.

I didn't ask how far away I could see the ground at 177ft. above ground. I am asking the for the RATE of deviation from flatness on a 25,000 mile circumference.
I understand it is 8" for the first mile and increases by a square...
I finally found it.

Bad news guys. Right now, they are live streaming the 200th space walk as people are working on the International Space Station. And well... I saw the earth from one of the head cameras.. and it's round.

I have no idea what idea or ideas you are trying to convey here.

I am confused by your use of the word deviation.

Here's a picture of Chicago from clear across Lake Michigan.

That's not a picture. That's a link to a youtube video.

That video was clearly done by someone with a high level of education. His "proof" that the videos of the ISS were fake consisted of - "they're just crap" "they look different to me" "they look fake to me"

He literally had nothing of content or value to say. Nothing. Honestly, I feel bad for this guy. I also feel bad for myself as that's some time I can never get back. I stopped around the 30 minute mark.

Probably. That was one of the worst videos I've ever seen and was completely devoid of any intellectual worth. The guy suggested that maybe we don't see stars from ISS pictures because the stars are actually in our atmosphere. I mean he didn't even present an actual argument against the video footage that you can get from the NASA website that is from the space station as being fake. The extent of his intellectual capital was to quickly click on them and go "yea that's crap" "that looks different to me" I mean it was terrible.

I copied and pasted
"the video footage that you can get from the NASA website that is from the space station as being fake."
into a search engine for you:

the video footage that you can get from the NASA website that is from the space station as being fake. at DuckDuckGo

Maybe you should apologize for not having done so yourself already.

Oh no, I have done it, and I can't imagine how anyone finds that stuff convincing.
Well then at least you can have sympathy for anyone who can't imagine how anyone isn't convinced?
Lacking imagination is horrible!
