  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Describe some of those happier moments in your past that have been such blessed, God-given memories. Can be with family or friends or something funny or silly that happened. Things that always put a smile on your face and warm your heart when you reflect back.

I remember when I was maybe four or five and I overheard my older brother telling Mom what he had learned in school. He was learning the value of money and I overheard him tell Mom that there were five cents in a nickle and ten cents in a dime. I thought that was pretty cool so I found a nickel and tried to bite it open to get the pennies out of it.

Grandmom always had a wonderful homemade
breakfast cooked when the family visited during
the summer months. The smell of bacon and toast always permiated her kitchen. Today, when I smell
bacon and toast, it makes my heart smile and I feel warm and fuzzy all over. It reminds me of Grandmom.

My grandfather was a physics professor. When he wasn't teaching, he was home working on something. He had so many projects going on and I, as a child, was observant enough to recognize how busy he was. I asked him one day why he was always up working. He said," when you get to be my age, if you sit down, you will never get back up."

When my great grandpa was still alive, they lived on the farm next to ours. I would stay there during the day while my parents worked. He always let me go with him to get the mail. He walked the same path everyday - so there was a dirt path right through their lawn from the house to the mailbox. I thought it was the neatest thing.
We also always got Tang at their house in tin cups that always stayed cold.

This one isn't very old, but my brother is only about 3 years older than me and we never got along very well until we moved out. We just always argued as siblings do. He was (and is) never one to show emotion - ever. But at my wedding - at the reception while we were getting ready to leave for my honeymoon, he walked up to me - gave me a hug - and said "I know I don't say it very much, but, I love ya sis." I made it my entire wedding without crying but lost it at that moment.

My parents separated when I was about 11 or 12. It was the worst day of my life. It was the first time I saw my dad cry. I thought life was over. But one of the best days of my life came about 2 years later. My mom and us were living in town and she said we were all going to dad's for 4th of July. We had a real family get together again. Not long after that, mom said she was moving back home. They went to counseling and agreed to give it another chance. They celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary last year. God truly worked a miracle in their lives.

Jenrenee:

Some of my blessed memories are of my grandparents. They lived in San Diego and, Oh, how we loved to go there every summer. Granddad had a garden out back and we could watch him from the second level of the house which was the living room. We watched a skunk, which came up the canyon, waddle up behind G-pa. Us kids and G-ma were watching from the window. We got a little excited when we saw that skunk, so my sister wanted to warn G-pa. G-ma, bless her heart, stopped my sister and said, "Why don't we just watch and see what happens."

Of course, nothing happened, but it leaves things to the imagination.

LOL! That is a great story!! I also have so many wonderful memories with my grandparents. Grandparents are such wonderful people! Like I mentioned earlier, we spent most of our days at my great-grandparents house. They had this wagon with side railings that my cousin and I used to love to play with. Well, one day, the wheel broke off! I remember running to grandpa and asking him if he could "glue" it back on again. Well, he fixed it, but I'm pretty sure he did a little better job than just glueing it!

But you know what? You certainly had the right idea.

One time my dad, twin brother and I took a trip over to San Diego and stayed with G-pa. G-ma went to the Lord many years prior. When we arrived at the house which my father grew up in, G-pa answered the door.

If you met G-pa, you would observe a snow white crown of course hair upon his head. His hair was thick and stood up straight naturally. He always wore a crew cut with no effort. Anyways, when G-pa greeted us at the door, he had a hair style resembling Bart Simpson's. His crew had grown out and straight up. Three inches, I'm guessing, was standing straight up on his head. First words that came out of G-pa's mouth was, "I need a haircut." Of course, we all had a good laugh with that intitial comment from G-pa.

Thank you Lord for Grandparents.

During my elementary school days,
my neighbohood was filled with young familes and children.
On summer evenings, neighborhood children congregated
at my house to play "Capture The Flag."
Dad hung flood lights on the eastern exterior of the house.
Children laughed and played at night in the light which lit up
the empty field adjacent to the house.

Summer days my parents would raise a swim suit
on the flag pole. This was the sign that the
neighborhood children could come to the house and go swimming. I recall a child's voice calling out,
"Marco Polo." I recall the world's funniest
dives from the diving board.

I recall that empty field etched with trails made by a hoe.
Some 10+ kids ran those trails on summer days playing "Fox And Geese."
I recall joy and laughter.
Thank you Lord!

Back then there were only two pools in the neighborhood. Summers were full and happy
in the neighborhood. The choir of children laughing was common.

As a family (five children), we
all had to eat together at dinner
We had a picnic table with benches in the
kitchen. It was a big kitchen.
Mom and Dad sat at the ends,
and we sat on the benches and
played footsies under that table.

One night, we all were at the
dinner table except for my twin
brother. Dad went outside to look
for him and found him in the middle
of the street spinning around while
one of Dad's golf clubs bumped the
asphalt and made sparks.
We used to take tools and swing them
around to watch the sparks.
Unfortunately for my twin,
Dad's golf club was not a good choice.

This story still brings laughter to the
family at family reunions.

Oh, why not?

As a toddler, I shared a bedroom with my other two sisters. I spent more time with my sister L, who was closer to me in age. I'm guessing I was about four and she was about five when we were sitting on the painted concrete floor of our bedroom throwing a pair of dirty underwear back and forth. We both got to laughing hysterically and ran for the bathroom at the same time. When we returned to the bedroom to resume our game of toss, we discovered two little puddles on that concrete floor.

Thank God for family!
