More like, Obama isn't interested in preventing any cuts. He's not worried, he's just being his usual, manipulative self.

You can accuse President Obama of alot of things, but based on his recent re-election despite high unemployment and the "fiscal cliff" confrontation with a Republican House, "stupid" isn't one of them!

Obama also knows that given enough time and political "rope," the Republican/Tea Party is simply incapable of responding to Jindal's challenge.

CASE IN POINT: According to a recent Pew poll, 66% of Americans agree with the President that the sequester will damage the economic recovery and 45% put the blame on the GOP, as opposed to 32% who take issue with the White House.

Unless those polls change dramatically, it would appear that the Republican/Tea Party, in its infinite wisdom, has now placed itself in the unenvianle position of hoping against hope that the economy doesn't falter between now and the 2014 Election - so that they won't be held accountable with the blame.

Conversely, if the economy prospers, the Democrats won't be too proud not to accept the credit!

Guess what, they will lose the house because of this. It is amazing that even yesterday many Republicans in this thread were saying nothing would happen, seems as if the thoughts have shifted
What the Democrats wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in Jindal's office and hear the "kind" words he's using to describe "IQ's" of his fellow Republicans in the House for manoeuvering the Party into such a no-win position for 2014!

I am just saying that Republicans are in position to force the issue.

Which is what? Give in and increase taxes and don't cut anything? Because that's all that's being offered. The way they're looking at it is that this is the ONLY way that any cuts will be made, because the president is completely unwilling to compromise.

Bingo, and that's why the Obama Administration is so angry with Bob Woodward, cause he called Obama out on it.

The Republicans in the House have painted themselves into a political corner and Obama is in the "driver's seat."

- 66% of Americans recently polled already believe the President that the sequester will damage the economic recovery and 45% blame the Republicans (as opposed to 32% blaming Obama)

- unless the polls change dramatically, the GOP will be held accountable if the economy falters

- if the economy prospers, the Democrats will receive the credit

Based on those numbers, Obama knows that the Democrats will win under either scenerio, while the Republicans can always be counted on to self-destruct (keep in mind Jindal's recent description of the GOP's collective IQ).

In addition, keep in mind that the demographic composition of the American electorate continues to steadily shift away from a majority of "white" voters and in favor of the visible minorities (Black, Hispanic, Orientals), who are projected to form the new "majority" by 2050 - all of which further favors the Democrats.

More left wing scare tactics. Republicans are not going to lose control of the house over this issue. You are both dreaming if you think anyone will remember this a year from now let alone two years from now. Kind of reminds me of how everyone said the republicans were going to lose the house in 2012 because of the Ryan budget. Didnt happen then, wont happen now. 2014 being an off year will likely se gains for republicans in both the house and the senate.

You guys seem to forget that the republican congress just won re-election as well back in November. If Obama couldnt take them out then, he wont do it in 2014 either.

You keep quoting this poll as if it means something. What exactly should the republicans do? What is it the president wants them to do? Has the president proposed to cancel all $85 billion? Or does he just want a few billion in tqaxes on the evil rich? But I guess we are supposed to believe that $75 billion in cuts wont destroy mankind but $85 billion will.
- unless the polls change dramatically, the GOP will be held accountable if the economy falters
If the economy faulters, Obama will blame the GOP anyway so they might as well stick to their guns.

- if the economy prospers, the Democrats will receive the credit
Very good. Things go bad its the republicans fault; things go good its all because of democrats. Great politics,; horrible reasoning.

Based on those numbers, Obama knows that the Democrats will win under either scenerio, while the Republicans can always be counted on to self-destruct (keep in mind Jindal's recent description of the GOP's collective IQ).
If that is what you believe, you should be writing and calling your local republican representative and telling them to hold the line against Obama. Since you arent doing that, but instead trying to pressure them to cave, you must not really believe what you ar saying.

He's right. republicans won't lose the house over it. I say that not because they will get more votes, if that was the standard, the republicans already lost the house, but because the house has been so gerrymandered that it will be safely republican for years.

What is looking so bad is today I have seen Congress from both sides telling of programs that are so obvious and could be cut without any problems and it is in the billions. I don't know why they can't just cut the waste where it won't make a big difference in our lives, but no - they have to go straight for the ones that will hurt us the most. So sad from both sides.

The House is trying to give Obama the option to do exactly that and he is promising a veto. A real leader would relish that opportunity
