  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There aren't any bible verses that can be used that explicitly say that listening to secular music is right or wrong. There are verses that people stretch to argue both points, but it is not a black/white issue.

Personally, I think it is a Romans 14 issue-- some may feel compelled to only listen to music made by Christians, and others not. Neither should attack each other for what their own convictions are.

Is is wrong to listen to secular music? I guess the answer is yes, and no. It depends. If the words of the song promote something that is against scripture/Christian values etc, then no, you should not listen to it; otherwise, I see nothing wrong with it.

It really depends on your convictions. Definitely pray about it. God will let you know if it's all right for you to listen to secular music. I personally don't listen to secular stuff anymore and I really don't miss it at all because the Christian industry is expanding so much that you can find a Christian band or singer that is just as good, if not better, than any secular band or singer you liked. If I can listen to really good music with lyrics about Christ, why would I want to listen to anything else?
