quote=LittleLambofJesus; If the Judeans couldn't understand it, how are us lowly "gentile dogs" to understand it
Be of good cheer dear bro in Christ!Same way any of us sinning idiots do, the 2Cor2:14 way (I'd say "By The Spirit Of God" , bit everybody says that, & I just get laughed at).
Romans 15:3 "For even the Christ not to Himself pleases but according as it has been written 'the reproaches/oneidismoi <3680> of those reproaching thee fall on Me'"
[Psalm 69:9]
How do you know that is true? Do people just say they have heard Jesus, and tell others what they want people to believe? That's done routinely with what He speaks as well, dontchya know, sweetie?
As Philo Bhetto once said before a fight "I ain't doing it for points"Village Idiot pays only a little better than Town Drunk.
The verse really says:
Timothy 3:15 But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. So scripture does call the Church the pillar and foundation of truth.
Actualy, to read it any other way is to read iy 'differently'. The preopsitional phrase at the end of the sentence refers back to the last mentioned non - "God".quote=Bible2;The verse can be read differently, so that it says that God is the pillar and ground of the truth: "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth" (1 Timothy 3:15).
Amen. For Jesus says that he himself is the truth: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth" (John 14:6).
Better you should say it than me. I never seriously believed any church could be inerrant, or any individual save Jesus, infallable. We never want to replace God/Jesus with the church as the source of truth, because the church is fallible.
Glory hallelujah. If we always stick with God's infallible Word (2 Timothy 3:16), which is his truth: "thy word is truth" (John 17:17), we will be sure not to be led astray by anyone in the church who might start to teach false doctrine which contradicts God's Word.
This stuff is better than the TV (which is blaring reality show drivel). We must always be careful to "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (2 Timothy 4:2-4). "The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1 Timothy 4:1).
Well, yeah... at least that & worse,... much worse! And the phenomena knows no denominational boundary.quote=Giver; How do you know that is true? Do people just say they have heard Jesus, and tell others what they want people to believe?
And then check to see it doesn't contradict scripture, right? Just to be sure it isn't an evil entity appearing as an "angel of light", like scripture says to do... test the spirits. The only way one is sure is to have Jesus tell him or her. Remember what Jesus told us.
This passage is figurative more than literal. He is the truth & it is that which we learn to recognize upon hearing. It resonates with all the other truth we've learned from scripture & His Spirit.(John 10:1-5)"I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."
Ok, darlin'... but you is a sweetie just the same, honey.Well, yeah... at least that & worse,... much worse! And the phenomena knows no denominational boundary.

Yes at first it will happen, but believe me there really isn’t any need. Jesus’ voice is nothing like Satan’s.

Paul for one will tell you that passage is not figurative. I will tell you from personal expierance that passage is not figurative.
It is strange what excuses people will come up with to rationalize why they haven’t heard Jesus’ voice.
I wonder if people ever consider that maybe they are not one of his people or that maybe they don’t want to listen to what Jesus might have to say?
(John 10:25-30) “ Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all] no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
By the way I don’t believe I am your sweetie.
That is where personal responsibility comes in. Let it speak, interpret it or follow a leader. No matter which choice one makes, they're not off the hook, so to speak, and everyone must give an account. So, do what you must, prayerfully, faithfully and in the fear of the Lord, but be ready to give an account, even if you say, "I was just following the teaching of the church on [fill in blank], Lord! Don't I get a pass?"
Right,...and the way you check is to correlate that with (drumroll)...Scripture.
True but not all are His sheep. How do you know that is true? Do people just say they have heard Jesus, and tell others what they want people to believe?
The only way one is sure is to have Jesus tell him or her. Remember what Jesus told us.
Studying! Studying What? One reads, or hears the Written Word of God, and the Holy Spirit explains the Word.
True but not all are His sheep.
Some ppl say "God told me to put my kids in that furnace" ...
... etc.
But yes, His sheep will not follow a strangers voice, because
they KNOW that voice of the Lord.
I believe that they know that voice because they've studied to
show themselves approved... had I not read His words over and over
through and through, day after day, year after year... I may not
"know" His voice...
Hmm, interesting musings anyhow.
Not all are sheep. There are goats.Studying! Studying What? One reads, or hears the Written Word of God, and the Holy Spirit explains the Word.
What did people do before the Bible was assembled?
If one is not a sheep of Jesus and isnt being led by him, then whos sheep is one?
There was always some of it written down, since the times of the patriarchs of Israel. There has always been "the word" to study and mull over.Studying! Studying What? One reads, or hears the Written Word of God, and the Holy Spirit explains the Word.

The Time Bandits probabkly know the location of that hole:quote=Fireinfolding;Theres a loophole somewheres
But of course there hasThere was always some of it written down, since the times of the patriarchs of Israel.

1 Timothy 3:15 ... the living God, the pillar and
ground of the truth.
