Sci-Fi, Fantasy or both?

I voted fantasy. There have been a few sci-fi stories I've liked, but not many. Fantasy, on the other hand, has probably been my favourite genre since I began reading...

Of course, the few sci-fi stories I've liked have been better than the crap fantasy out there (and believe me there is a lot of garbage out there). Probably vice versa as well, but fantasy is the one I give more of a chance to, I guess. I'll continue with a fantasy book if the premise sounds interesting but the writing is not particularly gripping (for a while, anyway). I don't bother if that happens in a sci-fi.

Besides. My preferred sub-genre by far is lyrical fantasy, which is a very particular writing style that uses language in unusual and surprising ways for emotional effect. The closest I've encountered to this in sci-fi is C S Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet, and not being a sci-fi expert and the book itself not being about technology but the idea of God explored in an alternate world, I read it as a fantasy along the lines of an adult Narnia... even though it's technically a sci-fi book. And it doesn't come that close to lyrical fantasy. It's just the closest.
