Slaughterhouse-Five was a great book, though.
I voted fantasy. I've read some sci-fi, but I don't love it like I do fantasy.
I agree that, as a rule, if you like one, you'll have a least a little bit of familiarity with the other.

Star wars, yes. But if one looks closely I rather don't like the 'good' there very much. Consider Anakin Skywalker. He is the one who at risk of his life wins the funds to get the great Jedi Knights to safety, but not enough to also buy the freedom of his mother. Is his deed repaid? Nope, she is left to rot as a slave. Look to the general Jedi 'philosophy' it stinks.

Perhaps Star Trek also. But it is far from the peak of Science Fiction.

In LOTR good does trumph, for a time, there is no promise it will forever and the cost was high.

Narnia can hardly be said to take us away from the cares of this world. Esp. considering the end.

Much of Heinleins works center more on pointing out todays problems than escaping them. Scarry stuff actually when one goes back and looks at copyright dates.

Generally, I read both. But I think that a major problem with some science-fiction is a "preachy" message they add in. It ruins the storyline and sometimes it bogs the book down toooooo much. Actually, I have a difficult time finding good sci-fi (particularly set in space in the future). Last I read was "The Accidental Time-Machine." enh....

I have to go with both.
Examples,
-Movies:
Star Wars may be Sci-Fi but then there is also fantasy.

-TV Shows:
Tokusatsu as a genre has some, especially Kamen Rider Agito which involves fantasy (getting your powers from an extraordinary being) with high tech weaponry (Go MPD SAUL with G3-X!).
