  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has school finished for your kiddo's yet?

OS finishes tomorrow. There's a party in the morning and a graduation service after I can't believe he's finished! He worked so hard this past year and the amount that he learned is amazing! He went from scribbling as his writing to actually writing sentences. He also learned math, counting, reading, memorizing, speech...so much!
We had a blast and I can't wait for a fun summer and then for first grade!

School finished today! Time flew by...what a busy year, and we have a really busy summer, too. September will be here before we know it.

Wasn't it fun to see your son's progress in the first year of school? Just amazing how fast kids can learn. I wish I could learn that fast! Oh, the things I could accomplish!

Yes! I'm still surprised by some of the papers he's brought home

In Australia, the kids are still in the middle of the school year (as it's winter here) although they will soon have mid year break for around 2 weeks. Which is good. I am looking forward to that.

I forgot not everyone finishes school in June At least they get a break.

This is my first year as a mom of school aged child so it's been fun to see all that goes on!

It has been quite a year of learning for me as well. I think my daughter adjusted better than I did. Goodness it is hard to keep track of everything with a school aged child. I had to really step up my household management skills.

Bear was done this past Monday. They had a talent show for their last day and she did magic tricks. She pulled a rope through one of her friends and made a banana fall into 3 peices with just saying a word.

She cannot wait until first grade. She was slightly bored through most of the math activities and in first grade they sort the kids more based on ability and need.

Me too! I had to reorganize my household

Bear's talent show sounds fun!

OS is yearning to start 1st grade also! His K class was set up so each child went at their own pace for writing, math and reading. I don't think he was bored but he really wants to be a 'big kid' now.

Yay, he's all done! And you made it too, so good for you, Mom.

Our kids were done last week, and they were so ready to be done. But on the last day of school I saw the strangest sight - kids were exiting the school building crying. My own DD held her composure until we started walking to the car and then she lost it. Cried and sobbed for a half-hour. Her teacher is leaving after this year, so it was particularly hard for them to say goodbye this year. Welp...they're over it now

Wow! Kids crying b/c school's done? Most of the moms cried today and a few dads joked about it. It was funny and sweet and the teacher cried as she handed each child their little diploma and hugged each child. It was bittersweet!

Just curious - how many weeks is that? In Australia most schools have 6 weeks for the Summer holidays. (the dates you posted seem like more than 6 weeks) Most schools have roughly 40 weeks of school, (the other 6 weeks are the term breaks, around 2 weeks each, so 4 terms of roughly 10 weeks)

We start a few days after your kiddo's. I guess they give out a few more 'days off' during the year to make up for finishing 2 weeks after you

There are 'year round' schools in the US that seem to follow the same schedule you have.
My kiddo finish June 12th and will begin school on August 25th. They get 2 weeks of for Christmas vacation, one week off for Thanksgiving, one week off for Easter and various Friday's or Mondays off through out the year
I believe the district requires 180 days of teaching.
