• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey all,

I was reading through the eschatology forum and I got really freaked out. It all started about a week or so ago I was thinking that Easter Sunday would be a great day for Jesus to come back, so on Saturday I did some research on the end times and two things really scare me. One is Israel becoming a nation in 1948 and two is the Bible verse (I forgot where it is) that I think basically says that the people of the generation that see Israel become a nation will see the end times. Now I don't know if that's exactly what the verse means, or how to interpret the word generation, but it scares me! As far as some of the other signs, I think that they may have started to be fulfilled, but not fulfilled entirely yet, but people over-react and think that they have been fulfilled completely already, but I really don't know. Everyone seems to interpret what the Bible says about the end times differently, so it's hard to get a good idea of what God means when He talks about the end times in the Bible.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi,
It's true that there are things going on which may point to the end times, but then people 2,000 years ago also thought they were living in the end times! The bottom line is, Jesus will come when He's ready. God won't make any mistakes with the timing, whether it's tomorrow or a million years later. Jesus said He will come like a thief in the night, so we will not be able to predict the time. The main thing is to be ready. If you trust Jesus as your saviour, you are ready, so there is no need to worry. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind" (Tim 1:7).

be comforted but not scared, if we are God's people then we have to rejoice at His coming

Joh 11:23 "Your brother will rise to life," Jesus told her.
Joh 11:24 "I know," she replied, "that he will rise to life on the last day."
Joh 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die;
Joh 11:26 and those who live and believe in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Joh 11:27 "Yes, Lord!" she answered. "I do believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

We must get a grasp of that, that those who believe will never die!

But Jesus also tells us that worrying will not add another day to our lives so lets not sister, be comforted! Know that Life Eternal is a gift and a GREAT GIFT AT THAT! Rejoice and even if your body tries to trick you, lie to you, remember that He is in control, He is our resurrection and our life, here and after.

in Christ

I know it's hard not to let thoughts lock up. Ever notice how they are always tragic, evil & fearful thoughts...not pure, joyful, worshipful ones? The mind is a huge battlefield for all of us & the devil tries to play it like a fine violin everytime. As Polishm. has been reminding us we need to remember the scriptures that we should obsess on...not the lies of the devil.
Recently the Lord has told me two things.
1. I am always Smarter then the devil
2. I always take care of My own

As for Jesus returning. Think on how awesome Heaven will be & the thought that these thoughts will never touch any of us again If a generation is 40, 41 or up to 70 years at this point only the Lord knows. & no amount of ruminating or such thinking will solve the riddle till He tells us

Oh dear.
Do you realise how much money end-times preaching makes for people?
Wake up and realise it is all a scam!
Noone knows the hour, etc, etc.
People have been peddling this nonsense for many years. Earthquakes, etc. They always happen.
Come on, you're better than falling for this whole lie.

It's funny, well not funny like I'm laughing, but funny weird because I just watched a special on the end times on the History Channel and got myself all worked up and honestly, have barely slept the past two nights. I think I'm getting over it though, thanks in part to this post because I feel so much better knowing that I'm not alone! We don't know the day or the hour, and since it is totally out of my control, from this point on, I am going to let go......well, try to..

I've had some very similar fears that have become obsessions to one point or another. While I'm sure you'll get plenty here to tell you about the endtimes, my suggestion would be to research the heck out of what scares you and then step away. It's the only thing that has kept me sane as of late.

Hi there. When I was younger, and before I was treated, I had very similar fears about the end of the world. Even though OCD is often a Chemical problem, satan can also use it against us to make us fearful and unprofitable servants.

Part of what helped me was treatment for OCD. Another thing that helped me was the realization that all of this is in God's Hands. There is not some magic key, or set of events that will force evil upon us. When Christ comes again, He will come in Glory and Power. It will be a joyous day for us, not one of terror.

Remember, all things work together for the good of those who Love Him.

im not sure, but generation i think refers to the human race we are. "this generation will surely not pass ...." is that what you were referring to?
if you know a little more about the Bible than most people understand, then i recommend reading 1 Corinthians 15. it talks about the resurrection.
