• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey there,

Calm down. Wishes don't really exist. Petitions to God exist, but I doubt He'll grant you that one. Now from what you wrote, it seems it isn't your desire either, so I wouldn't worry about it. OCD and the devil seem to have a nasty way of messing with your mind, but in truth you shouldn't listen to the deception. Remember, the devil and his minions can lie to you, make you feel guilty and tempt you, but they can't make you do anything once you are a child of God.

Personally, I think your problem is your superstitious mentality. I had the same problem. In fact, the fear of the number 6 was what led to my first spike.

Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; (ESV)

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
(NIV)
(1 Timothy 4:7)

Ask God to help you overcome your superstitions; He did so for me.

However, you shouldn't go around saying stuff like that. Negative confessions have a way of weighing us down.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." (Proverbs 18:21)

Long story short, you won't become a girl because your thoughts "wished" for it without your heart behind it.

Stay strong. I'll be praying for you (in fact I'll do it now). God Bless You.

Hi,

This "wish" that came into your head sounds like an intrusive thought and is mind noise. Us with OCD tend to mentally panic when such a thought comes in that is opposite of how we really feel, and we frantically try to fix it (that could be in the form of more "wishes" to counter the wish (these would be compulsions to try to fix it.)

This is kind of the OCD cycle; you get an intrusive thought or obsession, and perform compulsions to calm your anxiety about the obsession. Performing compulsions can temporarily calm the anxiety. However it can reinforce your brain to believe that OCD intrusive thoughts and obsessions take top priority as they happen; and it can make OCD worse. I remember getting advice that when I have intrusive thoughts to label it / acknowledge it as OCD, and choose to deliberately ignore the thought and go about my business (the purpose being to get peace and train the brain how to handle intrusive OCD thoughts so they will not stick so much). There is a book called Brain Lock I reccommend which talks about this concept more in depth.

OCD tends to attack what we value a lot. Because this "wish" (really it sounds like it is an intrusive thought) that you were a girl, I am going to take an educated guess that you actually feel the opposite inside; that you do not want to be a girl and actually fear losing your masculinity (meaning you value it). OCD is a difficult disorder to live with. Hope this helped. God bless you.

Frankarmendariz, your wondering what it feels like to be in a girl's body and wanting to know if they ever wonder what it's like to be in a boy's body sounds like a quite normal and human thought to have. I have wondered what I would be like if I were a guy; but that doesn't mean I want to be a guy - I don't at all and am quite straight. I do admire aspects of men, but I like appreciating those aspects from the perspective of how God made me (a female). The thought you had sounds like a passing thought that I'm sure has popped in the mind of a lot of people in both genders, that they have never acted out or had the desire to act out. Those of us with OCD when we get a thought like this can freak out inside and dwell on it, intensly scared that we may be going in that direction (our being scared that we are is proof that we don't want to go in that direction). I would say dismiss the thought as a normal passing question, roll your eyes mentally at the OCD making it more dramatic than it really is, and be thankful that you fear turning into a woman! ha!
