  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So do angels have free will?
God created Satan out of the same love He created us.

and yes, angels have free will.

From the Summa (I, 59, 3):

On the contrary, Free-will is part of man's dignity. But the angels' dignity surpasses that of men. Therefore, since free-will is in men, with much more reason is it in the angels.

I answer that, Some things there are which act, not from any previous judgment, but, as it were, moved and made to act by others; just as the arrow is directed to the target by the archer. Others act from some kind of judgment; but not from free-will, such as irrational animals; for the sheep flies from the wolf by a kind of judgment whereby it esteems it to be hurtful to itself: such a judgment is not a free one, but implanted by nature. Only an agent endowed with an intellect can act with a judgment which is free, in so far as it apprehends the common note of goodness; from which it can judge this or the other thing to be good. Consequently, wherever there is intellect, there is free-will. It is therefore manifest that just as there is intellect, so is there free-will in the angels, and in a higher degree of perfection than in man.

God knows all-I think He created us with the ability to betray Him so He could teach us a lesson and then say we had His Son killed to appease His wrath. After Jesus died it was to pay a price but as far as I can see others in the world are suffering still so I believe only God knows what is what. He gave us Free Will yet we are supposed to Pray but only His will will be done anyway so I don't quite get how Prayer is supposed to work because we only get what God wants us to have etc...so Prayer is just I don't know...I don't know at all how it can work if only Gods' Will will be done anyway.

???Maybe someone else can shed some light.

Also, God could destroy Satan in a heartbeat but He won't. My guess is it's to give others time to turn to Him and Satan makes God look good. In this world of war and famine it is giving people a chance to turn to God etc...but if Satan has reign for 1000 years then going back 1000 years from now there were wars and nastiness so the 1000 years is up. That scares me because I thought Jesus would be here by now.

It's all very confusing and seems to contradict-but then we are supposed to just trust that God made it this way for a reason. Still, he gave us brains and reasoning so He can't be too surprised when we ask "Why? about this and that. A simple 'Just trust Me" is wearing thin with a lot of Christians and non Christians because we have believed blindly for centuries and it hurts me that to be thought of as Saints we must suffer a huge amount to be "worthy". If Jesus paid our price already, then shouldn't we be happy and living it up rather than being made to feel bad for being fallible humans indulging in things of this world and earthly desires that God Himself gave us? if Satan is the one tempting us little humans, then get rid of Satan already Lord!

Look up the Prayer to defeat the work of Satan in the Pieta Prayer book. It's a goodun' but I don't see it working given that St. Mike is the one who will chain Satan in hell and that aint gonna happen 'til God wants it to so maybe the Prayer is for nothing or maybe every time you say it a demon dies. I don't know I really don't.

God didn't create Satan (which means Adversary). He created a beautiful and gifted archangel whose name was Lucifer. Lucifer chose to become Satan by his own free will.

Evidently freedom is of extreme importance to God.

Look at the evidence. God loves His whole creation and wants only the best for it. He loves all of mankind and desires our salvation. Yet He allows us to go wrong if it is our will to do so, even to the point of self destruction.

God did'nt create Satan. Angels are God's creation and Satan was a good Angel before he turned against God and become Satan. Satan means adversary. Angels & people were created by God with free wills. Altho' God knows the actions that Satan would take, He also knows that Satan was not compelled to turn away from God. God does not take away His created beings' free will otherwise they cannot be guilty of sin if they don't have the free will to do so.

Is Free Will really Free Will if we are influenced by Satan and God on different occasions?
What if our Guardian Angel decided to go bad? Or would God never assign an Angel that would go bad and turn their back on us? God created Lucifer knowing full well he would turn bad so the question still needs to be answered: Why create an unspeakable evil even if in it's original form it was a beautiful Angel?
