first of all I'd like to say that I admire all of you members of the Salvation army. your work gives me warm fuzzies and inspires me and may God bless all of you!

Well, what is the salvationist veiw on the eucharist? do they believe in transustantion (i KNOW I spelled that wrong) or the protestant's veiw? Also, what is their organization? like what are certain ranks ect.? what are some of their basic beliefs?

Thanks in advance for answering ! God Bless!

I only decided to make the SA my church a week ago...been reading various online books for several weeks...in other words I'm certainly not the most knowledgable person on this but I'll give the view I've got anyway. I'd say that generally we don't believe in transub..blah...(I can't spell it either!). The Salvation Army is non-sacramental and believes that God can impart grace through the sacraments but that's not the only way. So, I could be wrong but, I imagine the view held by most Salvationists is that communion is symbolic thing where the bread symbolises the body and the wine symbolises the blood.

Also, what is their organization? like what are certain ranks ect.?

Well there's three I've come across so far...
Adherant - someone who makes the Salvation Army their church but without becoming a soldier
Soldier - A member of the Salvation Army, someone who is commited to a relationship with God and also living a Salvationist lifestyle.
Officer - Like a pastor, leads the meetings.

I'm sure other folks can give more detail than I can on this.

what are some of their basic beliefs?

The quote below is the 11 doctrines of the Salvation Army...sums up the basic beliefs.

That's pretty comprehensive Starelda! There are all sorts of names for things in the army that sound a bit weird, but generally have a C of E etc equivalent. So eg I am an envoy, which is a part time officer, and since I have special responsibility for young peoples work, you could say I'm like a youth pastor, except I do a bit of everything. Officers have ranks ( Captain, Major) which generally denote length of service.

You will also find local officers, so like lay workers. Corps Sergent Major is I guess a bit like Church warden. There is a title to go with just about every job, and if one doesnt exist, one can be created eg we have a Corps Internet Sergent - he runs our website.

Starelda is spot on with the eucharist. I would be amazed if there was a Salvationist out there who believed in the real presence, but since we don't practice eucharist as such, we are free to believe whatever we wish I suppose! Older Salvationists often totally shun it, younger ones join in in other churches happily. We have had commerative fellowship meals on Maundy Thursday at our Corps- very effective.

Hey, I really like that view you quoted Craig on Fire! If only everyone would see it that way!
