  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Those under law killed Jesus, talk about chaos.

Of course they were under the condemnation of the law.
They got that way by breaking God's law.
Even you must realize that they were not obeying God's law when they killed Jesus.
The law didn't make them do it. The law told not to do it.

Everything leds back to G-d. The sabbath rest is just a completion of the weekly cycle and also cleansing of the land every seven year cycle. Later came the jubilee every 7 x 7 = 49 years. This was the same with sacrificing that existed and will come back. Everything leds back to G-d for cleansing and atonement.

Paul the prisoner of Jesus Christ says, any day of the week is fine

Course the official sabbath is saturday. G-d i think could had something to do with the naming of the days of the week; Sat-on-ur-butt-day.

and calls for dancing in the street.

Only a few are called to follow the law. Others follow not the law.

In Jeremiah; G-d says, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

Galatians; Paul Says, For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them

How did it turn from your cursed if you dont do it and your cursed if you do do it?

Someone in these scriptures is very confused.

That's at a little extreme RibI. Suz85 seems to me that she's sincerely searching for answers. I'd be asking the same questions too without the knowledge I've acquired.

If the sabbath still apply then Paul wouldn't have said what he said in roman and what he said about meeting on the first week. Also 1 century Christians were Jewish-Christians. They met on Saturdays like they were suppose for they were Jewish as well. They met Sunday. Jesus wouldn't have die for our sins to have us live under the old law. FOr we are under the law of grace.

Rom. 14:5-6, "One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God."

Col. 2:16-17"Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

Acts 20:7, "And on the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to depart the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight."

1 Cor. 16:1-2, "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. 2 On the first day of every week let each one of you put aside and save, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come."

Yes, set money aside on the first day because 1. it could be seen as a "firstfruits" if it's given first and 2. so money didn't change hands on the Sabbath as is customary since it might be considered work.

Where does this verse show that Sabbath became Sunday again?

Romans: yes, MAN might regard one day this or that, but the LORD said that Sabbath was the last day as is evidenced over and over again in His Word. Paul NEVER once says to change what GOD said was holy...meaning set apart. If ANY day is holy then NONE are holy as they can't ALL be set apart.

Col: Yes, don't let Pagans judge you for keeping feasts and festivals since they show the Messiah in them....see the rest of the verse around this one to se what I mean.

Acts: In Jewish tradition, people get together on Saturday evening to bid the Sabbath a farewell....on into the first day of the week...which would be Sunday.

Take the Greek thinking off and some of you might get this. Hebrew thought is completely different.

It doesn't. It shows that the new community met on the first day of the week instead of retaining Sabbath keeping. They demonstrated a new reality, a new covenant, a new beginning, a new creation ending with a glorified Eden restored our final Sabbath.

That's a lot of assuming on your part. It does not say anything about Sabbath. Read what it says. They met on the first day of the week and collected money during this time. If you read Acts, they met many days during the week. And, even if it was their custom to meet on Sunday (which was probably Saturday evening like I explained before) how does this verse undo something that God did...which was set a part Sabbath? Over and over again, He clearly talks about what Sabbath means to Him...yet some little vague verses in the NT somehow undo it?

The problem we Christians have is we PUT our theology INTO the Word instead of GETTING our theology FROM the Word.

My friend,

If you read the entire NT carefully you cannot fail to see the very many and very consistent teaching about the New Covenant replacing the Old. Thus many customary Jewish practices under Torah were no longer directly applicable for the new community, including holy days, kosher foods, circumcision and temple. The entire books of Romans, Galatians and Hebrews are on that general theme - the New now has replaced the Old.

Hanging on to one aspect, Sabbath, while missing the very much larger picture is just poor exegesis. Your statement "yet some little vague verses in the NT somehow undo it?" is a plank in one's eye as far as I understand your statement quoted above. Circumcision and kosher food were just as much fundamental components of Jewish life as was Sabbath keeping.
