Missed indeed. I am not so sure he was THAT influential as his stuff was incredibly complex and few could follow it. He was certainly inspirational.

His sound on that Ric was certainly iconic.

Indeed. Not too many bassists did solos.
Saw them on the "Yessongs" tour and he was incredible.

The only other bass soloist I saw was Glenn Cornick. He had been with Jethro Tull in the late 60s, but in 72 was in a band called Wild Turkey and was the opening act for Tull. He was the ONLY bass player I ever heard to intentionally use feedback in his playing. (like Hendrix or Kath)

He died last year. We are losing a lot of incredible musicians.

Age is starting to catch up with those musicians who were first active in the 60s and 70s. So even if they've kept themselves in reasonably good condition in the 40-50 years since they appeared on the scene, they're at the point now where health issues become more serious. Sadly, we're only going to see more of this sort of thing happening.
