  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Removing the laws of God- what does it really mean?

Hi again!

So I just listened to the first video you posted by your pastor.

I think it fits well with what we've been talking about.

He mentions how on the Sabbath it's a good time to experience God's creation. Under the new covenant, I like to expand that. I want to rejoice in God's New creations, us!

Yes, God's Sabbath is a blessing and was always meant to be! Don't listen to anyone who wants to destroy this, listen to God and only God. The joy I feel when I keep His Sabbath is like nothing else. I receive so much peace and more blessings than I deserve. Keep seeking His Word, He will lead you to the Truth.

Pastor Doug has been my personal pastor for a long time. I have moved recently, but I still watch his sermons online. I miss going to his church but thankful I can still watch online. He has a lot of sermons on his website Media Library | AFTV | Amazing Facts You can search for just about any topic. God bless!

And our God only wrote one scripture with His own finger in the entire Bible that He also spoke, and that we are told is eternal.

And that writing done with His finger tells us very specifically we are dead in need of His Life - eternally.

Praise be to God that through His Son we have that Life.

Thank you for the explanation.

This is something I'm reluctant to hammer too hard on, because I know that some people will regard one day above another and others will regard all days alike. And this is apparently something that's okay within the body of Christ, although I suppose it's possible to interpret that passage as just something that was temporary, just while the early church was in transition.

But anyways, here's a follow-up question, if you don't mind

When Jesus stops at the well in Samaria and meets up with the woman, was he doing God's work at that time?

Here's a follow-up question about money,
If God spoke to you audibly and told you to give some money in addition to your 10% tithe to a particular charity, would you do it? would you feel that he was asking for more than he was entitled to?

Edit: the quoting system has gotten messed up, there's a disturbance in the force. It's going to take me a couple minutes to unravel it

Further edit: I think it's fixed now.

There are many times when I would consider telling a lie, bearing false witness. And I think the spirit would be leading me, though no we don't know for sure until we are in the situation.

The classic thought experiment of suppose you were hiding Jews during world war 2, and the Gestapo came and asked if you were hiding any Jews.

I think that fits well with what Jesus was telling Nicodemus about everyone who was born of the spirit. It/They are like the wind, you notice its action but you can't tell where it's coming from or where it's going.

Since we don't know everything about a person's past, we can't always say where they are coming from, so we can't say for sure what the spirit is leading them out of, imo.

I think a thing we can do is, big picture, generally speaking, look to see if there is an overall growth of fruit of the Spirit in a person's life. But of course, best to look to ourselves first on that

The classic thought experiment has a governor.

The highest moral law is preservation of innocent human life.

If moral laws are ever in conflict, the preservation of innocent human life always comes first.

We find examples of such in Scripture, baby Moses in the brush, the spies and Rahab, etc.

This example comes to mind, and I hope I'm not flooding the channel

Paul says by the power of the spirit, that if a Christian is ritually circumcised, he is cut off from Christ.

Then he takes Timothy, as a Christian, and circumcises him.

I hear that the Sabbath is a blessing to you, and that's good.

Are you interested in taking the step of rejoicing in God's New Creation every day of the week?

Or does it feel more like someone who has drunk the old wine doesn't desire the new, because they say the old is good enough?

I'm understanding you correctly, right, that this is not an issue for you?

Absolutely! And I think Jesus was talking about that same idea when he says
Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

I am a write it down, list it out, kind of guy. When I am working on something, it is best for me to have a list so I can check to see what I have accomplished and what I have not. If you tell me to do this, this, and that - but don't write it down - I am going to forget over half of it.

But that is the opposite of what the Spirit-filled life is. He gives us what we need when we need it.

Kinda like the manna.

Each day will present itself with new challenges and area's to grow in. When we are looking at a script, no matter how well written it is, we are gonna miss the play.

The Spirit knows the script. That's good enough for me. I'm just going to follow along.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't want anyone to think that somehow I am perfect in my following. Sometimes I actually question myself because of all the potholes I seem to hit on the path instead of avoiding them.

But when doubt comes in I remember how great He is and how great I'm not. I am so thankful for daily bread.

This is actually rabbinical as well. According to the Jewish sages if one violates the Torah to save a life, they have acted righteously and respected the Torah; if by one's obedience to the Torah a life is lost, then they have violated the Torah and acted unrighteously. There are exceptions to this, for example, worship of other gods is never acceptable.

But the general principle is that human life > observance of the commandment. And it's what Jesus Himself shows us in His ministry, that mere external observance of God's laws is insufficient, it is about the heart of God's commandment. The love of God and our neighbor.

So that even with the fading away of the old rites and the external observances of the Torah having no application to us who are in Christ; the Divine Law of God stands firm: That we are to love God and love our neighbor.

To rest from our labors, and to dedicate time to worship, prayer, and God's word--regardless of what day of the week--is the spirit of the commandment; for in this we love God who gives Himself to us through His Word and Sacraments and we in return respond with a heart of gratitude and praise, and we likewise also concern ourselves with our neighbor's bodily rest. Thus for the wellbeing of our neighbors, and out of a grateful heart before God who has so richly poured Himself out for us in grace through the Gospel, the heart of the commandment is worshipful restfulness.

Insisting that it must be done on the Jewish Sabbath is simply yet another form of the age-old heresy of Judaizing legalism.

I think it's good to hammer away if you are wanting to understand Truth.

You are referring to Romans 14 when it says should you esteem one day above another. Romans is one book many really misunderstand and its easy to misinterpret, especially if you are looking for a way to disobey one of God's commandments. God made only one day Holy, the seventh day from Creation Genesis 2:3. He said His Sabbath is a perpetual covenant Exodus 31:16 and all of His Ten commandments will be eternal Luke 16:17, Psalms 89:34, Psalms 111:7-8 and than you have God who says He changes not Malachi 3:6 and Sabbath being the day of worship like He promised would be eternal is the same in the New Earth Isaiah 66:23. So when you look at the amount of evidence how His covenant can not be changed, you have to know Romans 14 is not referring to the seventh day Sabbath. Nothing in Romans 14 says the seventh day Sabbath has been abolished. Paul is referring to the yearly festivals and ceremonial holidays, not the seventh day Sabbath in God's eternal commandments. That would be very inconsistent and confusing and we do not have a God of confusion. There is a sermon on this very topic if you want I can give you a link that goes into much more detail. Knowing the Truth is important.

Jesus was always doing the will of God. Jesus said He came not to do His will but the will of His Father. John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

I also think it's important to always do the will of God. Sometimes it hard to hear God's voice. Look on these threads how confusing religion is. This is all the work of "the other spirit" and not God. Satan wants you to be confused. Keep seeking God and doing His will. The Holy Spirit will never lead you to sinning (not keeping God's laws) always keep that in mind. John 14:15-18

I hope this is helpful.

God bless

What do you mean by rejoicing in God's New Creation every day of the week? Are you referring to the New Earth after Jesus comes? We can rejoice daily now for all of God's blessing, I worship Him daily now, but I keep His seventh day Holy as the commandment states Exodus 20:8-11 which will continue on the New Earth Isaiah 66:23.
