I was looking for a general religion history board, but found none.

I am very interested in symbolism, and ancient symbols representing different religions...

I have found one interesting thing which I was wondering if some religious historians or people with good knowledge in that area could answer me on this question...

If you see depictions of the goat of mendes you will see that over his right hand there is a crescent. Does this have anything to do with Islam? Perhaps the threat Islam presented on Europe during the first depictions of the goat?
His left hand is bent down towards the earth with two fingers pointing to his palm, and three, from the thumb on in, outstretched. Does this have anything to do with presenting an opposite to Christos Pantokrator in many depictions holding his right hand up, with three fingers meeting together - representing the Holy trinity, and two joinet (usually) fingers pointing up, representing the dual nature of Christ (human and God)
Also I wonder about the torch on his head. What is that supposed to represent?

As for the Muslim Crescent... I am actually a bit in the dark on this one - what does it signify? And the star the muslim crescent is usually shown with - what is it's symbolic purpose?
