Maybe someone has an answer here for me.
How did Samuel, of the tribe of EPHRAIM, entered the priesthood? There is a notation in my Bible's explanation section which says that Levites whose families belonged to the Kohathite clans had been alotted towns in Ephraim (see Jos. 21:20-21; 1 Ch. 6:22-26) The descent of Samuels father seems obscure. In 1 Samuel 1:1 he is described as an Ephraimite. In 1 Chronicles 6:22, 23 he is made a descendant of Korah the Levite.
Ezra 2:62-63 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore they were, as polluted, put away from the priesthood. 63 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.
