There is no need to fear being a follower of Jesus. Our Christian faith is ultimately about a person, not a set of ideas and rules. The thing is: Jesus is the one person who will never let us down.

Although in general terms, he wishes us to belong to his formal Church, he has allowed for all manner of different ways and different times in their lives, for his children to reach him and rest in his love. 'In my Father's house, there are many mansions.'

It must have transpired many, many times, that a person was driven by disappointment and scandal to abandon a formal affiliation to a church, turning just to Jesus, and being inspired later to take the more common path of church worship, as well as private.

The idea of royalty is a European concept and was not prominent in Native American society or culture before Europeans came to this land.

Yes, but I do not believe that the way I was taught over the years to believe concerning this is the only right way. For example, I do not believe anymore that I have to abandon my entire NDN identity to be truly saved and to go to heaven. I no longer believe the perpetuated lies I have heard that because I am NDN that I am somehow this soulless heathen who is incapable of finding God and worshiping Him outside of the teachings of the Christian church.

Red Fox, there was a Jesuit priest called Matteo Ricci who first decided that it was wrong to impose our cultural template on Christians in other countries, willy-nilly, setting out to destroy their national and, hence, personal identity, in order to do so.

The Catholic church will certainly be adapting its teaching to Chinese culture, indeed, did so as early as the late 1500s, when Ricci began the evangelisation of China. Of course, the bad guys couldn't be kept back for ever, so his enlightened policy was attacked on various points.

You might like to look up Matteo Ricci in Wiki, Red Fox. The Roman Catholicism site soon becomes heavy going, if, like me, you don't like too much closely-argued, academic material. Still, the first part is interesting.

Have you investigated a Catholic church, or is there not one handy? You might be pleasantly surprised.

Sorry about that! Of course not. That makes sense. What we need is to a return to hunter-gatherer, political and social values. It may yet be imposed upon us, thank to materialism and its attendant, suicidal greed.

I wouldn't like to disappoint those folk by telling them that about Pocahontas, though.

There is a woman posts here called Brinny, who seems very holy to me. And she, I believe, is non denominational. Privately, I'd been a little dismissive of that position, until I read some of her posts.

No, the Catholic Church is just as guilty as the Protestant churches for committing terrorism and atrocities against my ancestors and my people.

In America nondenominational usually refers to independent evangelical churches, although it is vague enough to serve other purposes. I had a Baha'i friend who used to go back and forth to Egypt. If he stated on his visa application he was a Baha'i his visa would have been denied, so he would put down nondenominational and it was never questioned.
