I'm wanting to read a commentary on each of the Gospels and curious if there are a few authors that are a bit more recommended than others. I have read some John MacArthur articles, and know he has commentaries for most, if not all, of the NT. I just read samples by Chuck Swindoll and James Boice and like both of their writing styles but don't know much else about them. R C Sproul and C H Spurgeon also have commentaries but I've not checked them out yet. Not looking for anything academic, just looking for books/authors to help me grow in my faith and knowledge.

You might try volumes from the New Testament Tyndale commentary set. Or the Schaff 4 volume commentary on the NT. Other Commentaries like the New International Commentaries on the NT and the Baker Exegetical Commentaries are fantastic if you are looking for technical and conservative academic commentaries. They are something you will grow into as dig deeper into scripture. Some of the Tyndale commentaries you can read cover to cover so I would check those out first.

Wordsearch a former Christian database where you could purchase commentary sets as add ons transformed my bible study. I love the Strong's being right there for every word if I choose it. They were sold to Logos, which is OK and at least worth checking into depending on how you prefer to study. I imagine there are other Christian apps too. The ony downside I see to commentaries you buy for computer is when the company transitions it can be a pain to try move over to the new software or add it to a new computer.

I have Logos and I use it almost every day. You can add print volumes to your library which makes the print books searchable by Logos. There is a steep learning curve in order to get the most out of Logos but it is worth it.
