Reception of communion unworthily.

Some may have seen my thread on the theology section about this topic. As far as I can remember, I received communion pre-baptism. There was no warning and I was not told to not do so. Also, I dread that as a child I received communion without a working knowledge of what it is and what it accomplishes through the blood of Christ.

Normally, I don't struggle with ongoing guilt about sin, thankfully, realising the gift of Christ crucified and forgiveness in Him.

However, it's nearing a month since I realised this horrible sin and I can't get over the guilt. If indeed, like I think, have partaken unworthily I have sinned against Christ, and have committed a horrible sin. Now that I have offended God through this, which some call a sacrament and others an ordinance, I truly do feel unworthy and I have feel as though I have defiled what is holy. And believe me, it's not a good feeling. My only consolation is that my feelings are fallible and the Scriptures say God will forgive me if I confess (1 John 1:9).

Have you yet been able to create a way to turn back time? If not, then may I ask what you think you might be able to do to change the past? If nothing, then won't you just have to rely on the forgiveness for sin that the Scriptures promise those who are born again for all of your sins? Believe God!

If you're worrying about having offended God then I think you're in a good place. God sees your repentant heart and will honour it.

'A broken and contrite heart you will not despise' (Psalm 51:17)

The dangerous place would be if you had offended God and didn't give a hoot about it.

To ensure that I'm 'worthy' next communion, and that I'm not drinking judgment upon myself, what must I do?

when did baptism become a requirement for communion? If you were saved you were at that time already a child of God, while it is true you should repent of all sin before partaking. If your saved, already ask for forgiveness, love Jesus in your heart, Then Jesus made you righteous already. There is no sin.

Now if you were not saved an unbeliever at the time, it is true it is bad to partake, you will be drink God's wrath as God says, but You were ignorant, you did not know, so your punishment will be much less. Jesus said If you had said we were blind you would be with out sin but sense you say we see your sin remains. You were blind so if I read Jesus right you are with out that sin because you were blind. If if it was held against you, you are saved now Jesus paid that debt also along with all your others. Don't beat yourself up over, that is satan bashing you over the head with it God has already forgotten it.

Either way you cut it, you are free, now love God with all you are, and love everyone as your self.

Since in some churches baptism is not a requirement for communion (and knowing that no one told you anything about that, or that you couldn't do it), and with your actual repentance about it, I can't but quote Bluelion on this:

I am also agree with all advices given here, and would like to add one thing, that the children do
not responsible for the stupid deeds of adults.

Many churches perform baptism of children and communion (Passover of Christ) with children participates. And of course children do not understand the purpose and the essence of any of such rituals, but simply follow what the adults told them to do. So in this case the children cannot be guilty of anything, but the guilt as such will be on the adults only.

So do not feel sad, but remember that before taking any ritual, thoroughly study and learn the purpose and meaning of the ritual, and only then participate in it, in order not to incur a real guilt on yourself.

But if you are not sure, do not participate at all in any of the rituals, there is no guilt in no participation.

The only physical rituals that Jesus Christ took and converted from the Old Testament are the Baptism and Passover. And He did not force those rituals on anyone.

Whoever never been baptized in water has no guilt, he or she can be baptized at any time they want, as long as they understood the purpose and meaning of the ritual. Such baptism by water is from man, and has secondary importance.

But first importance is baptism by Jesus Christ, because He will baptize with Holy Spirit and fire.

But who ever among adults was baptized in water without understanding the meaning of the ritual, such person surely will incur guilt.

Concerning Passover, Jesus said that it can be performed for the sake of His memory, and He did not set any particular time for it, so it means that such Passover of Jesus can be performed at any time you want, but I do it at a time of the Jewish Passover as Jesus did, according to the Jewish Law and their calendar, which was equivalent to April 14th of this year.

The law also states the same, that partaking of the passover unworthily is fatal.
Having said that, the law allows for the celebration of the same a month later.

Passover is the precedent for communion, it implies that all are to partake regardless of any particular denomination-specific theology.
