Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reason why evolution can not happen

You're playing semantics. Astronomy didn't differentiate itself from astrology until the Renaissance. In ancient societies either word would be accurate in describing the observers of astronomical bodies.

And I'm sorry, but you're wrong. You see the Israelites claimed a world wide flood occured that killed everything but those on the ark with Noah, while the Egyptians were building pyramids and harvesting crops and such. The Egyptians knew a lot more about history and origins than the Israelites did.

I guess you can count-out the evolution alien theory out know You just proved aliens are not responsible for life on earth. Thats will hurt evolutions last resort tactics (hahahaha!!!).

Huh?

thats like saying a guy with purple hair from a mutation shows the process of evolution. Thats not new information, just different color.

It is new information. His genes have new instructions for creating a new color of hair.

You should try thinking for yourselves sometime, it's fun!
Translation: Stop believing what sciences says and what the data shows, so you can accept creationism and think like the rest us creationists! *Although, I think the word "think" is a metaphor*....

So the Israelites who were basically a bunch of nomadic herders and rubes knew more than a civilisation that built the pyramids and used the Nile for irrigation, travel etc.

What a joke!

Oh and why is it that only literalist Biblical scholars believe that Exodus really happened. Go check out academic University websites on history and archeology and see how many believe Exodus really was an event. It's pretty much an abandoned concept.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and apply some critical thinking towards whatever preacher/bible you gleam your information from.

many have, but...

1) Why? Its not evolutionists that claim no new information can come about.

2) The definitions always seem to fall short of whatever the creationists are talking about

They could, but you probably wouldn't get the same answer. The are various definitions of "information" and AFAIK, biologists have yet to agree on a definition as it applies to genetics.

I believe lucaspa's extremely distilled definition is as follows (if I'm wrong, someone correct me):

Production of new alleles (variations of genes) + selection for those alleles = new information in the gene pool

well the emphasis is not really on evolutionists, since it is the creationists who say that it cannot increase, and then refuse to define it. Even AIG's Jonathan Sarfati runs away when people ask him to define information. Still, Dawking gives it a thorough going over:

my understanding of information at a genetic level is a definable sequence that has a biological function.

So protein coding part of a gene is information

so is an exon, splice site, transcription factor binding site etc.

This defintion does lack precise quantities (it cannnot answer a question like 'by how much has the information risen') and detail for example comparing protein variants, but i think it works roughly at a genomic level.

A good definition of biological information is provided in this paper: 'Physical Complexity of Symbolic Sequences' http://arxiv.org/abs/adap-org/9605002

"The physical complexity of a sequence refers to the amount of information that is stored in that sequence about a particular environment."
