  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A 16-year-old boy with long shaggy hair had just gotten his permit for a driver's license and approached his father about using the family car. Dad was pastor of the local Baptist Church and known to be quite conservative in his views.

Dad said, "I'll make you a deal. If you bring your grades up from C's to B's, do a little more Bible study, and get your hair cut, then we'll talk about the car."

The boy agreed. In six-week's time he had raised his grades and been much more conspicuous at Bible studies.

The dad said, "Son, I'm real proud of you. Those grades are looking good and you've been attending Bible studies, but I notice that you haven't gotten a haircut."

The boy responded, "Well, Dad, in my Bible studies I've noticed that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and it's a pretty sure thing that even Jesus had long hair."

To which Dad said, "Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?"
