  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In my Catholic parish my priest is extremely political, almost to the point of talking about nothing else in his homilies...especially about homosexuality.

Now I fully understand the OC's beliefs regarding homosexuality but my question is...how often is it discussed in your particuliar churches? How often does the priest bring it up or the congregation speak of it? I know the OC condemns it but is it a major issue in your particuliar parishes?

Thank you very much

Never.
I can remember, growing up Catholic, one Sunday, my mom grabbed us kids and stormed out of church during the priest's homily because it was too political. I am so thankful that I have yet to hear my Orthodox priest discuss "the topic of the day".

Yea, priests are actually required to discuss the gospel reading...though last week my priest managed to talk a little about DVC movie. I forget how it related. (PS he told people they could spend their money as they liked---though he wasnt going to waste any more of his on it)

Never heard a homily on the evils of homosexuality. Two great homilies on the evils of Islam though. Tied together with the 400 years of Ottoman occupation of the Orthodox, way to go Fr George Stavropoulos!
I haven't, either, and I doubt I will. The world knows that most people in Christendom are against it. That message has been clear to a fault, in my opinion.

I hope that Father will just continue to treat sin and people who struggle with sin, whatever it may be, as though they're loved and need to repent boldly before God at his throne of grace.
