Not true. If I was baptized by a Lutheran or Presbyterian church or whatever other church spinkles that would be valid as well.theseed said:And by immersion.

The Lord's Envoy said:You could not become a member of any baptist church I know of SBC or Fundamentalist if your "baptism" was by sprinkling, because frankly thats not baptism. Hence the phrase re-baptizers. Back in the day people use to die for this.
Thank God I am not part of the SBC or a Fundie church then. As far as people dying for it, seems like a waste of life to me...The Lord's Envoy said:You could not become a member of any baptist church I know of SBC or Fundamentalist if your "baptism" was by sprinkling, because frankly thats not baptism. Uncle Bud said:We accept any "valid" baptism at our church. Valid is done in the name of the Trinity and it must be a believers Baptism not infant.

I am a member of the First Baptist Church of Chittenango, and we are an American Baptist Church. As I said earlier, no we do not except or are we in favor of babytisms as a valid baptism. But one can have a valid believers baptism in any protestant church, whether it be by immersion or by sprinkling. The act of immersion is favored by most Baptists as it is here, but it is not required for one to be a member here.

Gold Dragon said:No. Most baptist churches will accept a transfer of membership from other orthodox Christian denominations and other Baptist churches. This usually involves some signed documentation from the pastor of your old church saying you were a member and wish to transfer the membership to your new church.

In Baptist churches, you become a member when you are baptized. If the baptism is believer's baptism, and by immersion, then they will accept the membership.jlujan69 said:What if the church doesn't have membership per se and only keeps records of tithes and offerings, and baptisms? Gold Dragon said:Membership is essentially the right to vote on church policy in the congregational governance system.
If there is no members list, does the church give voting rights to anyone who gives offering? If they use their baptism list then they are essentially like the churches some have mentioned who require baptism in their church to have voting rights. I would be concerned about the separatist view of such a church.
CPman2004 said:I have always heard that in order to join a Baptist church you have to be baptised into it. If you leave that church, and go to another Baptist church you still have to be baptised again in order to become a full member of that church. Is this true or is it a myth?
Just wonderin'
Some Baptist churches do it this way.theseed said:In Baptist churches, you become a member when you are baptized. If the baptism is believer's baptism, and by immersion, then they will accept the membership.
