  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question about Heavenly Rewards

I was wondering: if it is God who works in us to accomplish good works, how can we be rewarded for it in heaven?

And what is wrong with the argument: God made me this way. If one person escapes sin because the Holy Spirit convicts him and leads him away and another falls into sin (maybe because the Holy Spirit did not lead him away), would the 2nd person be judged and the first not judged?

Also, for 2 Corinthians 5:10, will the sins we commit on this earth affect our lives in heaven? And am I correct to think that the good things we do in this life affect our lives in heaven?

It is our Faith, that God rewards the works are a sign of our faith in God. The Lord doesn't necessarily need us to work but when we do work it shows our Love and Faith that we have for him. It's kinda like a four year old searching for loose change to give to his father, the Father doesn't need the money but he appreciates his son actions because the sin acted out of love and care for his Father. I hope this helps, God Bless!

In Matthew 6, Jesus makes it clear that there are specific things which, if done SECRETLY, we will be rewarded for in heaven. These include works like giving to the poor, praying, and fasting.

The reality is we all have free will. We can choose to do good, or we can choose to do bad. If we opt to do good works, and keep those good works secret from other people, then we can be sure that our Father who sees in secret will reward us openly.
