Do they contradict each other? No. Those who say they do don't really understand the Bible.

History is littered with corpses left by people who were absolutely sure they knew what God was saying.

It's not sad at all. I have the option of listening for God's guidance, and learning, and growing. I don't have to pretend I'm done, or that I have the final answers; I can keep looking. By admitting that I'm not done yet, I can keep growing.

3. This "some guy" you are referring to is in agreement with millions in the past and many presently who believed and believed the book they had and have today in their hands contained and contains the very words of God and are perfect and infallible.

Only he was in a war with millions of other people who also believed that the book was perfect and infallible, only they didn't agree on what it said.

I ran into God out in the wilderness, without learning the words and rotes people use to keep the Spirit tame.

4. According to the view you appear to be taking regarding the authority of the written word you can know nothing today.

Well, here's the thing.

You give me ten people who are certain they know the truth, and I'll show you ten different opinions.

Which means that nine of these ten people who are certain they know the truth are wrong.

You tell me what you think, and my buddy Chris tells me what he thinks, and I discover that you're both sure you've found the truth, and yet, at least one of you is wrong.

So. I don't know how to be sure of the truth, but I know that whatever you folks who are certain are doing that makes you certain, it's sometimes wrong. So I don't trust it, and I won't do it.

I read the King James Version Bible and have learned that our emotions/feelings should not be a substitute for God's commandments.

The final authority existed before 1611, and the final authority is not limited to those who only speak English.
The derived authority of translations including the KJV depends on the greater authority of the preserved Scriptures in the original languages.

Baptist scholar John Gill (1697-1771) presented the Baptist view of Bible translation of that period that was also in agreement with the view of the early English translators. My final authority is God's self-revelation in history, fulfilled most fully in the Theoanthropos, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, especially when speaking to us on our own broken terms upon the Cross, but also in the revelations to the Hebrew people through God's voice at Sinai, the Angel of the Lord, and the Spirit-filled prophets and through that same Spirit speaking through the universal church before the Great Schism of 1055.

I suppose I might say Scripture then as well, since I believe Scripture to be the accurate testament to those revelations and the canon (rule) according to which we judge whether later revelations of the Spirit in the Church are or are not harmonious with the earlier revelations.

Are all the pre-1611 English Bibles of which the KJV was a revision scripture? There were many differences in these pre-1611 English Bibles, but the KJV translators still accepted all of them as being the "word of God."

TSIBHOD, you are misrepresenting what Vatican Catholics and Eastern Orthodox (and by defalt, Oriental Orthodox and Anglicans and Lutherans) believe, just for you to know. You might want to research what they believe before you state what you did.

Actually Scripture is independant of any man made tradition. It,the Scripture, by its very nature has authority over any man made idea.

Holy Tradition is not man made, it is Church made, that Church being the body of Christ who is the God-man.

Tradition is generated by mortal men. It is not given by inspiration of God as Scripture is.

God is my final authority - I know what he wants from me because he uses the Holy Spirit and scripture to communicate to me. God is first: the Holy Spirit and Scripture is how I know what he wants. For those dying to know: I use the NIV or the Greek (I think it is UBS); but I trust the Greek above the NIV because Greek is more specific than English is so I know what they really mean.

Paul taught traditions, and exhorted the Thessalonians to follow them. He specifically said these traditions are either "word of mouth" or "by letter." By letter is his epistles, obviously, Scripture. What do you think word of mouth refers to?
