She says she's not that girly lol..she wants black, white or blue...any other choices? She needs to get all As on her final school report before I get her one though. I KNOW she is capable of getting As easily, but her grades have been slipping recently...

I love my ds. i bought the ds lite for christmas well my hubby got it for me after nagging at him! i think super mario bros ds is the best mario game i have ever played! ive played other mario games before and think they are too hard this one youve got a great chance! i love mariokart too. played online once wonderful found hotspot in a pub while on holiday! ive seen psp and though not had one definately stick with this.
ive got a white one which is a good colour it doesnt get dirty mine doesnt. i like it cos its neutral colour.

Wait wait, hold on a second darling...one last quick question on the DS...if I buy a DS in Australia, can I buy games from the U.S? Are they region encoded? Because on eBay they said they have region formats...

The DS IS NOT region coded. I have a Japanese DS Lite that has no problem running both American, European and Asian region software.

If someone said that they are region coded, then they don't have a clue what they're talking about. I can tell you first-hand that a DS can play games from any country.

I'll take your word for it...but all the ebay sellers keep saying "International buyer (non US/Canada/America) please beware of the game's format indicated on the game description" (which is format 2:NTSC)...I don't get it...

NTSC doesn't even apply to portable screens. It's a format for TVs. NTSC format is used in most of the Americas (other than Brazil, Argentina and a few more), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and probably some other countries. Basically, that means that as long as your player can read them, DVDs, VHS movies, TV video games, etc. will play on any TV from any of those countries I mentioned.

The other popular TV format is PAL. That covers places like Europe, Australia, Brazil, etc. Historically, PAL format media didn't work on NTSC TVs and vice-versa. Nowadays, newer TVs can display media from either format.

This is completely different from region-coding. If a movie or PS2 game, for example, is coded for the Japanese region, it will not work in an Australian PS2 or DVD player. The DVD drive only allows movies from the same region to work. On the other hand, the PS3, for example, is not region-coded. ANY game from any region will work on it. The DS is also region-free. ANY DS game will work on ANY DS. Things like NTSC and PAL do not apply to the DS. The DS is not a TV.


The warning that you are seeing on E-Bay is just a general warning that's given to all games, regardless of whether is actually applies to them or not.

I just bought myself a cart that can read memory cards for my DS. It's called "M3 DS Simply." It has a slot for micro SD memory cards. I have a 2GB card in mine. With this, you can download homemade programs for your DS. This means that you can play MP3s, video, video digital photos, view text files (yes, I can read the Bible on my DS!) and do many more things for it! Yes, it does basically act as a mod-chip. In my opinion, this easily makes the DS so much better than the PSP. I have 2 GB of memory to store music, videos, photos and books on my DS. Since I'm sitting on a train for between 1-2 hours mosts days, this is great!!! The battery life is awesome, as well.

Yay for the DS!


Now if only Nintendo had made the Wii multi-region... If I buy a Wii here in Japan, I cannot play English games. I've got to import a Wii from America or Canada, and then pay import prices for English games! No fair...

I'm sure the worst it does it wreck the firmware (the software it uses at the start-up screen to lead games). That can be fixed by re-flashing it, or re-installing it. Not as easy thing to do, but it's possible.
