More Precious than Gold or Silver: Miles Smith Played several key roles in the translation of the King James Bible. He was part of the group that translated the Prophet and was one of the twelve selected to revise the entire Bible. And he also wrote the preface, " The Translators to the Readers." Smith was given this responsibility because of the depth of his knoeledge of thr Bible and the degree to which others respected his leadership and spiritual sensitivity. He had a lifelong love for the Bible and had studied the original Greek and Hebrew texts. After pouring over the scriptures in the original Greek and Hebrew, he felt that the Bible provided the foundation for all truth. He wrote, "What truth, what saving truth, without the Word of God? What word of God, whereof we may be sure, without the Scripture?"
In his preface, Smith wrote, that God "removeth the scales from our eyes, the veil from our hearts, opening our wits that we may understand His Word, enlarging our hearts yea correcting our affections, that we may love it above gold and silver, yea that we may love it to the end."
The Psalmist wrte that God's Word Is "better unto me than sands of gold and silver." Smith called it "a treasury of most costly jewels, against beggarly rudiments" and "a fountain of most pure water springing up unto everlasting life." God wants to reveal the depths of His truths to you. This means that your life needs to be filled with the Bible. Make it your commitment to fill your mind with His Word. May it become more precious to you than all the silver and gold in the world.
Prayer: God I want your Word to dwell richly in me. Reveal your truth to me. And help me to be equipped with your power and spiritual strength. Thank You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
