proving god a sin?

Everybody has to decide for themselves what is true. The Bible does not condemn a man for seeking truth, but says to not fool ourselves by our own lusts over truth. The sin is to choose sin over the truth and fool oneself with lies to justify puushing away the truth that surrounds us about God in His creation. Even our own conscious being is a gift from God and He speaks to us with every breathe of life, yet how long did I fool myself into thinking that God does not speak? I ignored the truth and bought into the lie that gave me what I wanted for many years. I could do as I pleased and agreed with myself on every desire becaue I decided I did not see God. Then the truth came all at once, with lots of trouble, as it often does. I called out for help and am grateful that my eyes have been opened, by Him, to the truth. He is a close as our next word of faith that asks, but don't expect any greater miracle in revelation than the one you already possess in life. What has life said and taught you today? Are we listening?

Ro 10:8 So what exactly was Moses saying? The word that saves is right here, as near as the tongue in your mouth, as close as the heart in your chest. It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. This is the core of our preaching.

If you were attempting to do it purely to demonstrate the reality of God then it could definitely be construed as contravening "do not put the Lord your God to the test".

The Holy Spirit cannot be used against its own will, as far as I know, but a person could mimic and use deception and lies for such a case which would definately be sin. All things deceptive would surely have some measure of sin associated to them...

Dear GreggHearld, when the Devil asked Jesus to throw Himself off a great height, to prove that God would send angels to save Him, and thus prove how great He is, Jesus quoted the Bible, God`s Word, " do not put God to the test." I would answer to your question, GreggHearld, yes, to prove God is a sin, God does not need help to prove His Greatness. I say this humbly and lovingly. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.

Well, we can't "Command God" to do something.

But the healing and other things are not sin, nor is trying to prove Gods existence by other means (Apologetics for example).

Faith is trusting what He says is best and following Him. That's why Abraham is used as an example by Sts. James and Paul when they are discussing faith. Abraham had direct revelation from God--there was no faith needed to believe He existed. But there was faith in leading his only son up the mountain to be sacrificed.

God can be known by natural reason, but faith (as described above) is necesary for salvation, not just belief (as the devils believe and tremble too).

Gregg,

1. According to most theology you, a human, cannot use the Holy Spirit, God, to do anything; rather it is God, the Holy Spirit, that does whatever and you're just kinda there.

2. But you're point is genuine, though I'd recast it slightly. It is clear that God was not in favor of images or anything which might limit the Godhead, like a name that is pronounceable (I've heard that Yahweh doesn't actually transliterate in Hebrew, but I may be wrong). If someone were to prove the existence of God, it seems to me that this would in fact limit God's Godhead as it would remove from all of the potentialities of the Godhead the nonexistence thereof.

On the other hand, I would not worry about it. Folks have been trying to prove the existence of God for hundreds if not thousands of years and they haven't even convinced humankind yet. That said, if you've got a good proof, I'd love to see it.

God can use anything and bring about good, but man has no power other than wat God allows. Who shoud receive the glory and honor for power for good if not the One who authors and gives it? If we are proud and usurp His power for ourselves,we join the devil's side and misuse that given by God.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I would have to say, then that Satan was a bigger idiot then anyone could have given him credit for, to use his power to prove God was real. That sounds so, counter active really when you think about it.

The Holy Spirit is the One who divides the Word, this is not our job!

John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I have been told it is prudent for me to elaborate on that last qualifier, so here goes

Thoughts are constantly coming at us, from the spiritual realm. The thoughts take on many forms and are from differing sources, for, not only is God a Spirit, but so are angels, and demons :o People too can carry a spirit, either from God or from the enemy with which to either build up [edify] or tear down a person, respectively.

Thus, we now have two sources [two, seeing as people are mearly conduits] for these spiritual thoughts.. [Angels always reflect the mind of God, whilst demons, although Satan would 'like' them to, do not always reflect the thoughts of thier father] which vie for us to believe them! In thus believing, we contemplate, in comntemplating, we eventually perform, if we are diligent, that is.. HeH

God's thoughts are;

James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

But, nevertheless.. In speaking of believers on Jesus for Salvation..

1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

2 Corinthians 11:14
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

As we can see, the battle for the soul of a believer is indeed tense! BUT, it's NOT OUR FIGHT! The fight is God's, as He is the giver of Faith!

It's the Life of Jesus within us which is more than a conquerer! It's NOT us, never was us, and never will be us! It's always Him! And He always succeeds, He cannot be defeated! BUT [HeHe, a lotta "but's" huh?!?] Jesus will only fight on behalf of a believer who so yeilds to Him to do so! He is God, yes, and is a gentleman! "Peaceable", remember? God will not force Himself on any man, but to those who recieve Him.. He gives them the POWER to become the children of God ALLMIGHTY!

BUT [haha] this power is not to be found in us, it is the power of God towards us, for Salvation for all who believe. It's His Life, the Life of Jesus the Lord of Eternity who overcomes! And He overcomes in and through us as we yeild to Him for His Life!

He does not do things accoring to our desires either, He works in ways that are too wonderful for us! It's His Life, and to say, YES JESUS, is to say yes to the ENTIRE LIFE, and not just parts that may feel comfortable to you.

Unbelievers, on the other hand, have no hope to resist one more powerful than them.. Demons, thus being spiritual have complete and utter control over all who deny the Christ!

If God's not in control, then Satan and his evil host are!

Luke 8:12
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
