  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I went to a conservative church that magnified the tithe.

Same tactics. Same Baloney.

Christians do not tithe.

According to the scripture they give liberally in love to the needy.

I read of the relationship between Paula White and President Trump and her appointment at the White House.
I also read that Paula is a prosperity teacher.
Anyone know anymore on this?

He's got several religious advisors. He's not a charismatic himself, but certainly values their base. He's a mainline Presbyterian and grew up in Norman Vincent Peale's church. Apparently he was a Peale fanatic and it's a big reason for his almost chronic (some would say aggravating) capacity to emphasize only good news or positivity.

I see Peale wrote the best seller The Power of Positive Thinking.
Also, just read an article that has Peale labelled as a false teacher.

Here's the end bit.

The Bible makes it clear that the troubles we experience in this life are not merely the result of negative thinking that can be overcome by tapping into our potential through positive thinking. They are the result of a deep-seated rebellion against God that involves not only the mind, but the will. We simply cannot overcome the evils of this world, or even the evil in our hearts, in our own strength. Apart from Christ we can do nothing (John 15:5). Apart from being born again, we are eternally dead in our trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1).

Where Peale taught that our deepest problem is a lack of belief in ourselves and that our salvation comes with a simple shift in thinking, the Bible teaches that no man can save himself, regardless of how positive his thoughts may be. His salvation must come from outside himself. The glory of Jesus Christ is in the fact that he “has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death” sinners “who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds” (Colossians 1:21-22). Tragically, by his life and legacy, Peale showed that he rejected this Savior and chose to trust in his own strength.

He definitely had his detractors. He was kind of a pop psychologist with Christian leanings. He kind of relied on self-hypnosis techniques of dispelling one's fears and envisioning positive outcomes. Maybe that's distasteful on some level, but all it was was a fancy way of being optimistic. He wasn't a cultist or anything. If he was so bad, Billy Graham wouldn't have said this of him: "I don't know of anyone who had done more for the kingdom of God than Norman and Ruth Peale or have meant any more in my life for the encouragement they have given me."
