• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey all,
its been a while since I have posted, been kinda busy when online doing other stuff.
I started out on CF really struggling with sexual sin, masturbation, homosexual porn, and homosexual desires.
By the grace of God, after finally admitting my sins and seeking His help, and leading me to CF, God put so many great tools in my hands for overcoming this.

The first being accountability, and awesome new friends who keep me going, especially one who has become my best friend, God knew.. even before I did that lonliness what a big part of the problem.

Next God gave me some great biblical counsil because of these friends, with the accoutbility keeping me pure for the most part my spiritual life finally started moving forward.

Also went through the Setting captives Free course, specificly "Door Of Hope", which has been a awesome help.

I still struggle with sexual lust sometimes, but not near as bad as it was... not even close really, so that is a great praise... but the great thing is through this growth of trying to "overcome" homosexuality... God has shown me some things that fuel those lusts that we would never think of.

The first being love for God.... wow... you think you love God... then you realize how much you don't... when I really love God... I obey his commandments.
I also realized that proper love for Him.. comes from Him, I had to ask God for, and constantly ask Him to give me the right heart of love for Him.

Also have learned so much by the grace of God how to overcome each battle.. I don't always choose to use Christ strength and don't win every battle, but I know that a year ago... I never could even dream of this kind of progress.

I may never shake the lustfulness of my flesh, especially towards homosexuality... but I do know that I can live by God's grace in victory over each battle.

For anyone who is struggling...and can't imagine any kind of progress at this point... rest assured, God has your back, seek Him, hard, and unrelenting, even when the battles seem to tell you that your losing the war, keep pressing on...its such a bumpy road, but God has plans for a better daily life, one that will hopefully result in a total 100% freedom from homosexual lustful sin... which is what I am hoping for me, but even still.. if you have to suffer with a "thorn in the flesh" ... know God calls and provides for us to live daily in purity despite our nature.

As I pray for you all, that you become strong warriors and destroy the stongholds of sin, I ask you do the same for me.

God bless you all!

1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

...when I really love God... I obey his commandments.

It's great that you see the value of obeying God's commandments. But actually, let's look at this backwards: love God BY obeying His commandments, you don't love Him, then obey. Obeying is synonymous with loving God. Jesus said in John 14:21:

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."

When we love God by obeying His commandments, we will see God manifested in our lives. His Holy Spirit will be manifested to us and work with us and strengthen us as we obey. But it must be our initiative to obey, for He gave us the freewill to do so. It is a reciprocal phenomenon. As we obey, He gives the Spirit to help us obey Him more and can rest in His Strength. When we obey, then we are living in the Spirit and mind the things of the Spirit rather than the flesh.

This is why every addiction can be broken. We have to recognize our responsibility to God. Though God has taken the initiative in sending Christ to die for our sins and bring us grace, mercy, and forgiveness, it is our duty and response to obey God. Jesus fulfilled the penalty of the law so that we can freely obey Him without condemnation of our souls to Hell. In return, God wants our love. All the Law and the Prophets are summed up loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Our goal in obeying God is to be conformed to His (Christ's) image, who obeyed God perfectly. that is our goal.

I think too often we think that we just have to rely solely on God's Spirit to keep us from sin. but we cannot just rest there. We must be proactive if we are to see real results. Our salvation is free, but our conformance to Christ comes with a cost. We have to invest in it.
