  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

B|tch means a female dog. Used in proper context, it is not a curse word. A person is not a female dog. sperm is a medical term. It could be used to insult someone. A dyke is an offensive term when used in context to lesbians.
A dyke also means a barrier to keep out sea water.

The F word used to be a term meaning sexual intercourse, and was not always a swear word. It used to be proper to say that one animal was going to F- another.

I think your missing the point. What I am saying is that as a black man I have a certain amount of empathy towards people of my colour when they have been discriminated against just because they are black. To suggest that I wouldn't be just as offended if anyone, regardless of their race, got stabbed is insulting. Of course I would, but as I have already stated being called a N****R is far more offence, just from a historical perspective alone, than someone saying for example "you Heeb, or you fat so and so". That is my, let me repeat MY personal opinion. If you have no problem with someone being called a "N" then the words ignorant and small minded apply.

I would most definitely not use the term regardless of the reason that my fellow humans are offended by it. I also certainly do not condone the usage of certain terms under any circumstance. This being said, there are other terms, like the s-word or the f-word, that have connotations that are not inherently offensive. If someone is offended by hearing these words, I would not show any regard for them because their offense is not based in any kind of logic or rationale. If my fellow man is offended for a particular logical reason, then of course I would respect their wishes and refrain from using such words around said person.

Th F word actually means For Unlawfall Carnel Knowledge which is basically premarital sex and the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] word well over in Sydney at least black and white people use this word to each other as it is regarded as a rap word than a racist word, black Americans have come over and been horrified not that people called each other it but that no one got offended , same with cracker and white trash etc we just find these words amusing

Well, I choose not to look at it as "so and so many black people" were killed, or put into slavery. I would rather account each individual human life, were it possible, not as black men, women, or children, but as human beings.

I guess if you'd rather mourn your own race as opposed to anyone who has been enslaved, raped, tortured, or murdered, over the course of human history... that's up to you.

My personal belief is that bad language is wrong for Christians to personally use. I believe that Paul mentioned Christians not using it as a way to set Christians apart, much as Kosher eating sets Jews apart.

IMHO, bad language is defined by culture and the language you speak. Usually, it consists of words that refer to sex or sexual organs aside from technical terms for either, words that refer to defecation or urination, and words that are meant to show anger, insult, or hostility.

However, unless it personally causes YOU to stumble in using such terms, I do not believe that Christians are automatically forbidden from hearing others use it. I've heard of too many people feeling guilty from not withdrawing from society into a "Christian safe room" because of this. Simply put, you are responsible for your own behavior, not that of other people who do not share your convictions. If you don't feel guilty about, say, working in a business or being in a school where everyone around you cusses, and you don't cuss yourself-stay there. They need your light a lot more than the "holy huddle" does.

I myself try my best not to say alot of the offensive language, I really don't think people will be comndemed to hell for swearing, but I do think it is really not proper.
It really bothers me to go to a place of business or somewhere and hear those employed there using foul language, what does it prove or what does a person gain from it. I myself being a business man would fire someone on the spot for using foul language it is just vulgar, and makes people come across as unprofessional, and uneducated, When I see someone constantly swearing it reminds me of the type of people that frequently are guest on the Jerry Springer show, not really a pretty sight.

Please show me where I have made such a suggestion I have love and respect for all people regardless of their race. What you still fail to grasp, for reasons I just do not know, is that I detest racism of all forms. This thread was about profanity and I commented about the N word and how I found it offensive. You seem to have taken offence at me because I hate hearing the N word... that's up to you!!!!!!!

The way I think about it (I used to swear like a sailor but it has been about 4 years since then) is that we are supposed to set ourselves apart from the world. This is the reason that I don't use profane language. And, it's true, society could say that any word is profane and then it would be considered so. The words that are considered swear words are those that have been deemed so by society (although most of society doesn't really think they are bad since they use them). Anyway, learn to express your anger or frustration in an intelligent manner rather than swearing.
