Prefer doing things alone?

Hey singles, where do you draw the line on doing things alone? Like, do you think its a sign of laziness if you spend time doing recreational stuff by yourself, when you could do it with others?

I was talking with my roommate about this recently. Sometimes I just pop a video in (movie) and watch it at home by myself. She said she wouldnt do that, but that shed try to invite someone over to watch together. What do you think?

I have no problems doing stuff alone. I have always done things on my own. I have found that as my friends have become older the less likely they want to do the things I enjoy. in the summer it is always "too hot" to go for walks or a bike rides In the winter it's to cold to go out side and enjoy skiing. In the end most of my friends just want to sit around and play cards, which to me is a waste of tiome. So I do things on my own...You shouldn't worry about doing things on your own...Just do it...

I think sometimes we all just need to have some time by ourselves. There's nothing at all wrong with doing activities alone. I hike alone because it's the best time for me to get close to God. Last Christmas I spent three days alone in a cabin in a state park, then was joined by a friend for the remaining three days. I go to the movies alone because sometimes I want to forget about my mundane life, but don't want to have to socialize before, during, or after. Sometimes my friends are busy,so I go alone. I've gone on vacation alone because my friends don't necessarily have the same time off, or the same resources. That's not selfish at all.

About the only thing I can think of that I won't do alone is go to a restaurant.

I'm super extroverted...but there are times in which it's necessary to have "me time." I don't mind being on my own and just hanging out...I'm comforatble enough to go to the beach, watch a movie, or go out to dinner by myself...sometimes it's super relaxing...but then there's times when I need to have someone there...just depends really what mood is I guess...

I like doing some things alone, but there are times when I want to be around people. I think it's healthy to be able to do both. My problem is when I want someone around there is usually no one to call.

I do alot of things by myself...mostly by choice!! I don't mind being by myself most of the me, there is no drama and no extra problems to worry about, I can do what I want, when I want to and don't have to worry about want others want to do!!

Hmmm...Well, I have never really thought about that before...I generally like to do things with other people, but when I feel like being isolated I do just fine by myself...I tend to want to be around people outside of my family, even if it is just to sit around and talk...

Yeah, I know what you mean! Unless a person has close friends who are willing come over at the drop of a hat (and also have relaxed enough schedules to be able to do it), you have to plann ahead to get together.

I agree with Kristen06 too. Sometimes I don't want the "drama" of some of my friends.

I agree - it is really a too way street. I have had times when I have gone to the movies with friends and seen a different movie by myself because I didn't want to watch the one that everyone else was watching (on that note I have also walked out by myself on a really bad movie and came back to pick everyone up afterwards). I think that there are lots of things you have to do by yourself and others that you do with your mates. I guess it's up to each individual what they feel comfortable doing by themselves.

I have an independent, loner attitude. Quite a homebody too. Our church group is good in that we hang out as a group quite a bit.

However, I have no problems going hiking by myself (good alone time with God), but I probably wouldn't goto a movie theater by myself.

I often do things on my own because it just isn't practical to get together with friends much of the time. I currently live quite a distance from anybody even remotely close to my age or anybody who would be interested in the same recreational activities as myself. Furthermore, I tend to have an odd schedule. I do try to spend time with other people on occasion, but I don't need to have another person around in order to have fun. For me, not inviting other people over has nothing to do with laziness.

I do it all the time....Watch a movie by myself at home. Out in the theatres I'd go with friends. But when I'm at home, I don't have to worry about abnoxious people and their cell phones going off. Or that kid that kicks your chair. I can pause for a rest room break. Most of all, I can lay down on the couch and not have to worry about chewing gum stuck on my jeans (ewww).
Invite someone over? They'd better not be narrating the entire movie. Unless it's foreign film and they speak the language. Otherwise, I can't stand someone that talks through the whole movie.

I have no problem doing things by myself. Most of the things I like to do none of my other friends are interested in or if they were couldn't be away from their families long enough to do. I actually like going to movies and stuff by myself or staying home and watching a movie by myself. But them I am pretty much a loner so it's also more comfortable for me.

Yeah, I have no problem doing stuff by myself either. I'm alone probably 80% of the time I'm here at home. I can do what I want whenever I want, and don't have to worry about someone not wanting to do that thing. If I want to watch a movie, I can...If I want to play my playstation, I can.

I think there absoultly nothing wrong with doing things by yourself. Everyone no matter who they are needs time alone. If you don't feel like having someone over to watch a movie with you it is not selfish. It could actually be more selfish if you asked them over and you lack engery or the desire to talk with them, becuase you at cheeting both yourself and your friend. Of course you also need to spend time with your friends, but that does not mean you need to spend every min. of every day with them. Take the example of Jesue. Was he being selfish when he went off to be alone?

I love doing things by myself! I'm practically a recluse, but that's just me. I love not having to really try to entertain anybody or worry if they don't like what we're doing. Now, not to say I don't spend a butt-load of time with my sister or friends, but some people just require more alone time than others. Some people I know would go too far the other way and need to spend every minute with somebody. I like being alone...it's so peaceful.

well I love my friends, but they are always saying stuff like "you are fascinated in the weirdest things" "you entertain yourself with the weirdest stuff" "Dee this is weird". Usually by weird they mean educational, like I like to watch the discovery channel, the health channel and A&E (murder mystery) because I like to learn new things. Where as they want to watch BET, MTV and Vh1. So while I'll make an effort to hang with my friends, if I really want to do something I consider 'fun', I usually have to do it by myself. So yes, I prefer to do things alone.
