The Word of God is as important as your next breath. It is time spent with God for it is Gods Word. How can one Love God, Christ or their neighbor inless they know and understand Love and how can they know inless they study scripture. Studying Gods Word is VERY important according to Gods Word it is a must. Telling someone its not important is like telling a doctor there is no need to go to school. A tree doesnt grow inless it sinks its roots into water we dont grow inless we sink ourselves into Gods Word.

"Occult does have to do with evil."

It's an example today's verbal bankruptsy. Until Spiritualist groups hijacked the word around the turn of the century, no one would have ever used it in an evil sense. It simply means hidden--nothing more.

In the same way, those same Spiritualists that Oxford was ripe with in those days, started using the word mystic, or mystical, to apply to any otherworldy sort of experience, when what it originally meant was an experience specifically with the Divine. It's truly amazing how Christians have allowed non-Christians to complete re-write their own vocabulary.

That's probably, as Millerrod (who I agree with) said, because most people here probably (and all the people I know) do not equate the word occult with Godly things but things of satan.... whether they are Christian or not. I've never heard the word occult being used in a Christian sense.

Yes, a definition in the dictionary is as you say, but look at the first definition :

1. pertaining to magic, astrology

That's not what I want any part of.

So just for reference and so there is no confusion between us... if you see me use the word occult anywhere, know it is in the more commonly used sense of the word, and as Millerrod says... so that there is a distinguishing between what is of God and what is evil.

It's true that some words have been hijacked...as I said previously, meditation is one such word. It may be a sad thing that word definitions are changed over time, but that's how it is. It's like if had lived a few years before I was born, I probably would have said "I'm feeling gay today". I wouldn't use that term today!

There are fewer on the narrow path and so if a word such as occult is seen by the many as evil, then would I be heard by someone that I was seeking God for his occult word? No... I'd say I was seeking revelation from God.

It may be a sad case of affairs, but then English is a language lacking in depth compared to say Hebrew or Greek which is why some translate words in the Bible don't carry their full meaning.

Anyway I'm certainly no linguist! But I will use what is relevant and understood today.

Thank you chuckles !! we will answer this with your info provided, look at the flags of ALL islam countries, look at the symbolies of witchcraft, ALL have the occulted moon. The horn as spoken of in Rev. same shape. the symbolizm of all pagan religions spoken of in the old testament, you got it the occulted moon All through time beginning to now the occulted moon is a symbol of evil. thank you for pointing that out with the word definition. Now, if only we knew what the term "Word of God" meant when the Sumerians coined it 2,000 years before Abraham, and/or what the biblical writers meant when they used it (obviously they didn't mean the bible since it hadn't been written yet). Some seem to be talking about the Pentateuch, others the ten commandments (which are probably not what you think they are), others to a specific prophecy, and possibly some to the Septuagint, and many simply mean something like intuition (a voice telling you to turn right or left perhaps). The church got along for the first 300-years of its existence without a formal collecton of holy books. Now we have five which are quite different even in the books they have, and several hundred according to the various codices used therein. New Testament writers quote from the Septuagint 85% of the time when quoting Old Testament writers, and yet I know of only one bible (a brand new one) that Western Christendom has that contains the Septuagint, which means for all intents and purposes that Western Christendom has the wrong Old Testament to begin with. Obviously it isn't that simple, but the term "Word of God" should never apply to a bible. It mostly applies to a path. No bible will tell you which passage to take if you're lost in a cave, but the word of the Lord will....

Oh well, that's for a different forum. I suggest we forget about it for now.

(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares."

I'm aware of that verse chuckles. I just hope you don't go round telling people that they don't need to read the Bible. From it I know God more, I know the character of God, His promises etc etc. And I know that everything I hear / see / live should line up to that Word. It sounds that your way to Heaven is by good works and that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible is God's word. God gave us the Bible. ALL Scripture is God breathed.

I'm done with quarrels over words for tonight. It profits nobody anything.

So let me get this straight you talk smack about the Bible then you us it against a fellow brother, or is he your brother, i know he is mine. Many good God Loving people have died and continue to die this very day so they can freely study Gods Word there has been thousands upon thosand die through persecution so that you and i can study Gods inspired Word so to make their life better and to follow Gods Way which is taught in the gospels of Jesus Christ and you have the gal to talk trash about the Bible. This one i have to leave to the Lord or i am going to say something i will have to repent for later. TO many people have died to get Gods Word spread to all nation to have someone come along and treat it with disrespect. May God forgive you which he will if you turn to Him and may you find Jesus Crist !!

Funny, I seem to have no memory of that.

Jesus Christ alone is the truest word of God. The bible is not God, it makes no predictions of a future accepted canon ever coming into existence (gee, you'd think it might mention a little thing like that) and it makes no claims of perfection for any set of books, poems, and letters. You can stick to typical fundamentalist worship of a canon. I'll stick to God. And any "words" will have to align themselves with the Spirit within, my God given conscience, and not the idolatrous reverse.

So the Bible is like an idol to Christians?

Do you not think that God in His power knew when the Bible was compiled that people of the future who wanted to follow Him would use that as a guide and as His word to live by? Or are most Christians deceived and following the wrong path because they "idolise" the Bible?
