I am almost sorry I asked!
A few questions for thought...
Was Isaiah speaking of a certain kind of people relative to his day, or just anyone in general that would eat such things?
In other words, what were the characteristics of the people that ate these things during his time, and does anyone that eats these things fall into the same category as they did simply because they eat them?
You see, he could have been speaking of a certain type of people relative to his time that were altogether ungodly, as if to assert that such a character would exist until the end of time. Thus the people that fostered such a character during his time were known to eat these things. If this is the case, it wouldn't be difficult to conclude that the people to which he was referring here would just simply be people that are altogether ungodly. So it's not an issue of what food they eat, but one of what type of character they have, which brings them under God's condemnation.
Note: I do believe God doesn't want us to eat these things. But I don't believe that just because a person eats these things that that person is automatically excluded from God's kingdom. I'm sure we can find people that eat pork and have a genuine love for God at the same time. We are not judged by what we eat, but by how we respond to God.
Pigs have a digestion system that lasts exactly 4 hours from start to finish. They don't sweat so all of their impurities stay in them. They eat their own feces and contaminated slop. Because they don't excrete any of this, You are eating it. Cooked or not, it is NASTY!!!
Not only that, God never intended for man to be carnivores. Look at our teeth. They are made for grinding vegetation. Not long and sharp for tearing meat. Also our digestive system is not acidic enough to break down and digest meat properly, that is why meat sits in our stomach and rots. Literallyy rots. This causes ammonia to form in our body which in turn mutates our cells and causes cancer.
Our body is our temple and we need to take care of it. Not taking care of it is a sin as far as I am concerned.
I don't believe the reason for God commanding us not to eat certain things totally has to do with health. I believe its a call to be seprate or holy. We know that a pig is a very dirty animal but there are other creatures that God calls us not to eat that are not really unhealthy. Most of which are found in the sea. I believe its a call by God to be different, to be seprate or holy as He is holy.
Lev. 11:44-47 `For I am the Lord your God. You shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth. `For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. `This is the law of the beasts and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, 'To distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.' ''
God sets certain standards for a people who are called by His name.
2 Chronicles 7:14 "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
It's in these standards that make us different from the world. It's in these standards that we are able to express faith working through love.
If there are no standards then there is no holiness for God calls us to be holy as He is holy.
1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy.''
Holiness is dertermined by the standard set by God.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
Actually, this is the point that I was bringing out in my explanation of what Isaiah had said.
I too agree that both factors come into play here (health and identity).
Well, thanks for all the comments. I see the drift is God wants us to be healthy, and most people do also, but the adventists church does it more diligently.
Its not a 'sin', but not recommended.
Am I right?
